Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says the criticismfrom Elland Road fans has tempted him into walking away from the club.

The former Chelsea chief has seen the West Yorkshire club struggle to keep its footing in the Championship this season, with The Whites under threat of an unthinkable relegation to League One.

Bates says that Leeds' financial problems have remained since he took charge nearly two years ago, butis determined to put club back on track.

"Finance is the core of the problem at this club," Bates said in the Daily Mail.

"I am often told the city of Leeds needs and deserves a successful Premiership football club. Mostly hot air from people who do not put their money where their mouth is.

"When I hear the moans and groans, it would be easy to say eff off to the lot of you and take the advice of some so-called fan to return to Monte Carlo.

"Believe me, if I did that, you would have no club - there are no rich investors, just chancers.

"However, I will complete the task and we will succeed in due course."
