<p class="big">Barnsley caretaker manager Simon Davey praised his players' commitment after they held on to secure victory against Burnley on Boxing Day. </p> The Tykes, who went down to QPR on Saturday, moved five points clear of the drop zone witha victory which eased the pressureon Davey's men. </p> The first half was dominated by Barnsley, who took the lead on 30 minutes after good workby Paul Hayessaw Martin Devaney slide the ball pastBrian Jensen in the Burnley goal. </p> Davey said: "It was a tough game, we got the goal when we needed to. We were unlucky not to put more away. It was a hard-fought game and we deserved to win it. </p> "We got away with the right win after a poor performance. The commitment from the players was fantastic. </p> "It's always good when a player comes in and gives you a goal like that. I am pleased for him," he said. </p> Burnley boss Steve Cotterill was far from happy with his side's first-half performance which saw few chances created and a goal conceded. </p> Cotterill however was pleased with the way his side reacted in the second half, but admits they missed the finishing power of Andy Gray up front. </p> He said:"Second half we dominated the game after a sloppy first-half performance. </p> "We have dominated the game in the second half and they had a few chances. We had one or two cleared off the line. We are missing Andy Gray. </p> "We're really disappointed to lose but good luck to Barnsley. We must take the opportunities that we are given. </p> "At the end of the day, if we had been better in the first half we would have won because they had nothing in the second half. It was an unacceptable first half."</p> </p> <font size="2">At least he didn't mention the blatant penalty they weren't given. No sour grapes there then - good man.</font></p>
