City ready to agree price for ChopraJun 12 2006 Terry Phillips, South Wales Echo CARDIFF CITY and Newcastle United will thrash out a compensation payment for striker Michael Chopra this week. Newcastle want £500,000 for their highly-rated striker and Cardiff City will agree - in structured payments. But the deal to make Chopra a Bluebird has already been agreed and a source in Newcastle said today: 'Michael is going to Cardiff. 'He has passed a medical and agreed terms. The only factor remaining is compensation for Newcastle because he is aged under 24.' Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has set the figure at £500,000 and Cardiff City owner Sam Hammam has said yes, if that is structured with around half as a down payment plus extras for appearances, goals and promotion to the Premiership.
Half now and the rest dependent on appearances & promotion to the Premiership!! They ain't got a cat in hells chance of reaching the Premiership so the deal will be less than the £500,000 Freddie Shepherd is looking for. He will turn that down and stick out for £500,000. It's up to us to come up with the dosh if we want him badly enough.
We don't.. ...and neither should we. 500k could sign us half squad of players that could perform at this level
How come that's not on the South Wales Echo website then? Either that or it's mentioned under something completely different.
What gets me is How come our lot keep saying nothing can be done yet while every other bloody club seems to be sounding people out and getting on with it!
