Barnsley manager Andy Ritchie has given up on drafting in a new striker in time for the opening-day visit of Cardiff.

A new forward has been one of Ritchie's priorities throughout the summer with Sheffield United's Geoff Horsfield and Kenwyne Jones of Southampton two players linked with a move to Oakwell.

But Ritchie remains confident he will make a significant signing shortly after the new season has kicked off.

Ritchie said: "I've got to make a phone call at the end of this week,"

"So it's not going to be for Saturday, but we are still beavering away on that one - and we have several options."
