Simon Meeks Barnsley BARNSLEY beat off competition from two Championship rivals to land the signature of Peruvian international Miguel Mostto. A six-figure fee is being paid to top South American team Cienciano for the 29-year-old strike ace. Barnsley boss Simon Davey said: "We had to fight off a lot of competition for his signature from Norwich and Leicester as well as a Turkish club. "He was identified to us by a contact of mine. I watched him and was very impressed." Although an agreement has been reached between the clubs and the player has come through a medical, Davey added: "I am still very conscious that the transfer hinges on obtaining a work permit and international clearance." Mostto, valued at £400,000, has 10 caps with Peru. He is said to be a strong-shooting front-runner. Davey has other deals in the pipeline. "We have lots of business still to do but we won't be making announcements until agreements are 100 per cent made," he said. Davey also confirmed he was still hopeful that striker Daniel Nardiello would rejoin the Barnsley squad at the end of the summer.
