Interesting and not too condescending article. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jul/05/the-transfer-market-is-beyond-help
Indeed. Great article, thanks for posting. Although I'd love us to go up again in my lifetime, there's part of me which feels sick at the thought of us paying players in excess of £30k a week. It's just completely wrong on so many levels.
Why? We have no problem with film stars or pop singers making that much. Why shouldn't others in the entertainment industry be able to profit off of their hard work and talent? I'd rather see it go to them than the Glaziers or the Murdochs.
We're a professional football club you condescending bell ends, why don't you try being a professional newspaper?
Buy a newspaper? **** me who does that these days... Great article btw. Football has gone completely mad. I can't wait for the roof to fall in. The money is beyond daft and it's ruined the beautiful game.
Why should these others in the entertainment industry with questionable abilities get paid massive amounts when ordinary folk with just the same level of talent as these prima donnas have to work their arses off for a pittance? Firemen, nurses, ambulance staff etc....
Because they're not being paid from the same pot of money. The entertainment industry generates massive amounts of revenue, it's only fair that the people working in that industry reap the rewards. Moreover those people will be paying significant amounts in tax that helps pay for firemen, nurses, ambulance staff, etc. Unless you're advocating for some ridiculous socialist nightmare where we seize money and assets from people and businesses there's no comparison to be made between what a nurse makes and what a footballer earns.
I wonder... if we did manage to get back up with the current plan, woudl you change our tact or do the same but with even higher quality young uns? Would we not splash the cash like udders? Maybe we coudl do it for a 10-12m instead of 31m+ Id sooner we did that than go out and bring in big names a la john terry etc... Its a modern take on little old barnsley takin gon the big boys! I'd like to see us get conor back though maybe and any other ex red that left for the prem that still fits with the system and wage structure for the league.
It's a proper conundrum isn't it? I really wouldn't want us to deviate too far from the current system, especially as we'd likely come back down at some point. But once you've gone up and started paying at least reasonably silly wages by necessity - £25,000+ - it's very difficult to get back to normality, as Wigan and Bolton will sadly testify. I would as a minimum hope there would be plans in place to prevent things going as pear-shaped as they did last time, when we failed to get back up during the period of parachute payments.
The only way to do it is to have clauses in the contracts. We will pay you a minimum of x, but while in the Championship you get y, and the PL you get z on top - or however they do it legally.
Why shouldn't Rupert profit off his hard work? As for them bloody nurses, don't do half the work that Alexis Sanchez does.
Nurses and Alexis Sanchez aren't paid from the same pot of money. However Sanchez does contribute significantly to the pot nurses are paid from. I'm more than happy for Rupert to reap his rewards, I'd just rather it go to the players.
