BARNSLEY two goal hero Martin Devaney paid tribute to manager Simon Davey for changing his role in the team. Devaney repaid the switch with two breath-taking goals in the 4-2 triumph at Plymouth. "We played a 4-3-3; it might have looked like a 4-5-1. It gave me a bit more freedom instead of being stuck out on the right and doing a lot of defending," he explained. "Tonight I was able to get a bit more at the defenders myself." Devaney's goals came either side of half-time. "The lads are saying the second one was about a 40 yard screamer, I'm very pleased. To be fair I was happy with the first strike but the second was an absolute peach. "I thought I had my shooting boots on and I'd give it a go. It was just reaction, I struck it really well and it's flown in the top corner." Only 182 Barnsley supporters made the 300 mile plus journey to watch last night. Devaney led the players vote of thanks to the faithful few. "Tonight showed what Barnsley's all about. People took the day off work to make the trip, sacrificed money to make the trip. It shows great support for the club. "They're doing their bit, we're going to try and do our bit by keeping the club in this league," he said. Plymouth assistant manager Tim Breaker was sent to the stand by referee Lee Probert after he chased the ball out of the technical area and in front of the Barnsley dug out. Barnsley boss Davey said: "The ball went missing somewhere and the assistant manager from the other side has tried to find it. There were a few scuffles but I didn't see much I was watching the pitch."
