New game plan, same old problems. A defence leaking goals and strikers who don't score. Still, Davey's logic made sense, even if his players made howlers, He explained: "We had to look at our strikers' score at the moment. The last one to score was Michael Coulson when he came on (v Blackpool, January 5) . We felt that he deserved his opportunity. "Diego (Leon), Brian (Howard), Jamal (Campbell-Ryce) and Martin (Devaney) are very attack-minded players so I needed somebody who was a defender in a sitting role and Bobby (Hassell) was the ideal person for that role. Pity then Coulson didn't get a look-in at QPR's goal before it was 1-0. 20 more minutes then lapsed, still very little Barnsley penalty-box action, and it was 2-0. The first half had a dreadful start and finish for Barnsley. Nothing much happened in between. In less than five minutes they were trailing 1-0. The goal was a tribute to Patrick Agyemang's power, persistence and skill. Dexter Blackstock delivered the ball in from the right flank. Agyemang played it up and over. The chase was on between striker, centre-back, and goalkeeper. Agyemang got to the drop first and at Heinz Muller's left -hand post headed in. QPR's second, in the 45th minute, stemmed from the right wing. This time Vine played two one-twos with Agyemang and the finish from inside the area was simple, cool and calculated. Barnsley had to change something. Formation switched, as did personnel, early doors after the break. Said Davey: "We had to then change it and go with two strikers up front. We put Kay (Odejayi) and Stan (Ferenczi) on and there were chances again. "Jamal had a chance. If one of those goes in, it's a different story, but unfortunately today it's gone against us. "You make you're own luck and we need to start winning games. We've had lapses of concentration twice today, uncharacteristically from certain individuals, and we've been punished, which is disappointing. "We had a lot of possession and when we had the opportunity to put the ball in the back of the net we didn't do it. "We just have to look at it and dig in and work very hard this week and make sure that we put things right." Easily said. There's plenty going wrong and the quick fix of recruiting is the obvious option, although time is running out. Campbell-Ryce's miss was from a sharp angled shot straight at keeper Lee Camp and he still managed to be Barnsley's man of the match. Odejayi maintained his dismal record in front of goal. He worked as hard as ever but when his big moment came the outcome was the usual. This time he failed with a far-post connection on a centre from third sub Michael Ricketts. The moment of the second half belonged to Martin Rowlands. He took on the Barnsley midfield and back four and kept the ball and should have scored. Take that back !!! No-one needs to make our Strikers look bad, they are doing a great job on their own.
I never buy that rag. Stopped buying it last season.
Simon Meeks is such a **** poor journalist and has no enthusiasm towards Barnsley FC. Even our own "failed" Journo could do a much better job. I have never met the man but he reports on our games as if it had been a punishment for him. He is a depressing writer full stop.
Even the Barnsley Star is biased towards the Shitfield clubs. Certainly more biased than Radio De Da.
Shitfield United and Shitfield Wednesday always get colour features and stats.
BFC just get a 4th rate journalist reporting on our games.
