    Transfer ambition

    Barnsley

BARNSLEY boss Andy Ritchie is hoping to complete two deadline-day signings.
Clubs have until midfield tonight to complete full transfers before the current window closes.
Ritchie said: "Talks are ongoing and we are working hard down two avenues ahead of the deadline. As always, you can never tell in football and at the moment both deals are up in the air but we are going for it before the deadline.
"You never know for certain and it is important not to get our hopes up too much, but we will work right through to the deadline if needs be to get the players we want.
"I am not going to say who they are but I can confirm that Colin Kazim-Richards is not one of them, that deal is dead and buried."
The Reds dropped their interest in Brighton striker Kazim-Richards a week ago because they believed the asking price was too high.
But the 20-year-old was today set to join Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.
Brighton have been trying to claim as much as possible of the £250,000 that he cost when he was sign from Bury a year ago; the money was a prize that the Seagulls won in a competition involving League sponsors Coca-Cola.
Ritchie said last week: "Brighton are asking too much for a player they got for nothing after winning a competition."
Kazim-Richards made a farewell appearance in a 3-0 win for Albion's reserves against Crystal Palace at Worthing on Tuesday.
Brighton manager Mark McGhee said: "We have agreed a fee with Sheffield United. Colin and his people have been determined that he should go.
"The future of Kazim-Richards has been in doubt since the start of the season. He handed in a transfer request straight after Albion's opening-day win at Rotherham, when he was used as a second-half substitute."
*Barnsley Reserves lost 3-0 at home to Port Vale last night.
