Reid a Red to end of season BARNSLEY'S Championship survival fight has been boosted by news that West Ham winger Kyel Reid will remain at Oakwell until the end of the season. Barnsley boss Simon Davey signed the 19-year-old left winger in November and extended the loan a further month into December. Talks this week with the Premiership club secured the midfielder's services until May. He has made 10 appearances for Barnsley, five off the bench and scored once. He got his goal in the league win over Southend before being sent off for two bookable offences. Meanwhile Davey has said that Barnsley might have to wait until the Wednesday deadline to confirm transfers into Oakwell. "It's looking like it could go down to the wire," he explained. "No-one wants to let players go, all managers are in the same position. I've a feeling there could be a rush at the last minute." Davey expects to have defender Neil Austin back available for Tuesday's clash with QPR at Oakwell. Austin has missed the last two matches with injury. It has emerged that Southend's last cash bid for Barnsley striker Paul Hayes was £100,000. The club do not want to sell the 23-year-old but might consider a bid in excess of £150,000. Striker Marc Richards was set for clear the air talks today with chairman Gordon Shepherd, writes Dom Howson. Said Richards: "I'm having a meeting with the chairman just to see where I stand. Gordon's the man at the top and he will clear up a few things for me. Hopefully he can tell me the situation on whether the club want me to stay or not. "I would love to be at Barnsley but only if I'm wanted by the club. I have family up here now – my son is in school and my girlfriend works here so I am very settled. For family reasons alone I don't want to leave. "If I had my way, I would love to start and be involved against QPR next Tuesday. Simon Davey has made no secret of wanting to bring in a striker and I am sure he's sniffing for someone; he might even want to sign a player on loan. However, my priority is at Barnsley." Last week Richards looked destined for a move to Port Vale in a swap deal with Leon Constantine. Richards added: "There has been a lot of speculation about all the players who are out of contract and I'm one player who has not been offered a new deal. "I think it's about time that I was told whether I will be kept on or not. I want to know where I stand."
If we have any footballing ambition at all. Keep Richards beyond this season, do not sell Hayes unless Southend offer well in excess of £200k. Interesting next few days.
"No-one wants to let players go" I think he's turning Ritchie-nese, I think he's turning Ritchie-nese, I really think so. There have been 318 tranfers during the window so far. But no-one wants to let players go. Aye. Alright. I'd have believed "no-one wants to let Championship standard players go for what we can afford". SM reply awaited. I expect that it will defend Gord.
Do we need to sell? If not why are we inviting bids for Hayes? Tell him he's going nowhere till summer.
RE: "No-one wants to let players go" But we're prepared to let one of the few proven chamionship players go for £150k Strewth
Fair play to Richards- he's got a point
He deserves better that to be used as a pawn in Davey's transfer dealings. Like you say, any strikers coming into the club should be addition to Ricco and he should fight for his place. He certainly sounds like he's up for it and thats what we need at the moment.

RE: "No-one wants to let players go" we've signed Eckersley and Mattis, made permanent McCann and extended Reid til end of season. fairly busy time I'd say. At least the manager is watching players, not dvds or suppin Guinness in a Ireland.
Books. Balanced. Flinders out. McIndoe out. Wright out. Togwell in. McCann in. Mattis in. "That's it Andy - you're sacked for not spending the therteh six pence we've got on a full squad of players capable of playing in the Champions League".
Richards to ask Shepherd whether he's wanted at the club. Isn't it the manager's job to decide which players are kept and brought in? Course it is.
And as for him not being offered a new contract. Let's hope one of these 'irons in the fire' eventually arrive. What a joke.

Bang on. He can't possibly be focussed if he thinks he's on his bike next week.
And why we haven't just told Southend to piss right off I don't know. This suggestion that Hayes is clamouring to move South is a bit odd. As I recall last summer he said that he'd obviously be linked with Southern clubs but was happy at Barnsley. He may have intimated that he'd like to return South eventually, but advertising the fact that's what he wants NOW seems to me to be a way of readying supporters for his departure. Not happy me tha noz.

i presume they are wanting to offload Hayes for say 200-250k so we can buy a striker for about 400k who is currently out of our budget? im starting to worry that no one is brought in on deadline day , all the wrong noises are starting to come out of the club.
RE: Richards to ask Shepherd whether he's wanted at the club. ANybody who thinks that Davey is calling any shots at Oakwell is deluding themselves. Its the Gordon Shephard show, and it looks like the players realise it too.
Clockwork Ken. Hello there. We've not signed Eckersley. He's on loan - just like Kyel Reid. We've signed Mattis & McCann. Who are both out of their depth in this league. There must come a point, where you've asked for certain players who you think can play in this division - they've come to the club - and gone away without being signed, that you think "what is the point?". And I'm not talking about **** eyed Chopra or McPhail. Foster, Tabb etc were all out of Gord's reach ... as is Leon fecking Constantine. I've given up. It seems they have - so I'm just repaying them in kind.
Does seem an odd thing to go to the Chairman. Its the manager who picks the team , so what the chairman says is surely irrelevant.
Maybe Gordo has asked Richards to come and see him because he has spoken to Davey about him.

RE: Does seem an odd thing to go to the Chairman. Sounds a bit pissed off with it all too. Can't see him being around next season if he's the only one not offered a new contract. Mind those with offers are hardly rushing to sign. Some to be sorted in the autumn weren't they?
RE: Does seem an odd thing to go to the Chairman. Were treating a player that worked his socks off last year like dirt. He may not the best footballer, but he will give you everything. I think Shephard is in control of the team. hes calling the shots on and off the field. Players obviously know and he sent on Davey because he wasnt going to disagree with him Just my opinion
