Strike pair in Reds bench bid On target: Marc Richards scored in Barnsley Reserves’ 3-3 draw at Leeds Picture: Dean Atkins « Previous « PreviousNext » Next » View GalleryBy Simon Meeks STRIKERS Daniel Nardiello and Marc Richards gave Barnsley boss Simon Davey food for thought yesterday at the same time as midfield duo Ritchie Jones and Dwayne Mattis suffered fitness set backs. Nardiello struck twice, once from the penalty spot, and Richards also netted for Barnsley Reserves in a 3-3 draw at Leeds United. Davey is likely to choose between the two for substitute's duties on Saturday when Barnsley play Sunderland in the Championship. Jones, who came off the bench to make his Oakwell debut in the 3-1 defeat by Norwich, is suffering a virus. Mattis suffered an ankle injury in the game yesterday and had to be replaced after an hour. Both players are doubtful for Saturday. Yesterday afternoon all three Leeds' goals came from Tresor Kandol. He opened the scoring after 23 minutes. Chris Fisher's foul on Nardiello 12 minutes later brought Barnsley a penalty. Nardiello buried the spot kick. In the second half Kandol made it 2-1, heading home a cross from Danny Rose. Leeds lead survived only three minutes as Nardiello smashed in his second from inside the penalty box. With only 10 minutes left Richards nodded in to make it 3-2 to Barnsley but Kandol had the last word with a header which completed his hat-trick. Barnsley Reserves: Letheren, Harban, Austin, Kay, Atkinson, Williams (Waggett 46 mins), McGrory, Mattis (Potter 60), Richards, Nardiello, Coulson. Unused subs: Meynell, Laight, Butterfield. Barnsley are giving Hungarian Aron Pall a trial. The 18-year-old midfielder was released by top Hungarian side MTK Budapest towards the end of last year. Barnsley youngster Nathan Joynes has extended his loan spell with Boston for a second month. The 21-year-old striker has made four appearances for the League Two side, scoring one goal, since joining for an initial month at the end of January. Hull blew their chance to climb out of the Championship relegation zone last night, losing 5-2 to Ipswich at home. Christian Nade banged in a hat-trick last night, hammering out a clear message to Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock. Winger Keith Gillespie also turned in a performance last night that will have caught the manager's eye. The Irishman fresh from a serving a four match ban also scored. Warnock is planning to break the bank with a £7million summer move for Manchester United outcast Alan Smith, according to reports today. Last Updated: 07 March 2007
