Is Nardiello facing up to Reds farewell? « Previous « PreviousNext » Next » View GalleryBy staff IT'S a sure bet that it isn't just Wales who want Daniel Nardiello. The reality is that on Sunday at West Brom in the last game of the season, the 24-year-old could be pulling on a Barnsley shirt for the final time. His contract expires in the summer and already the grapevine has linked him with Premiership moves to Portsmouth and Manchester City. The same day that Welsh coach John Toshack included Nardiello in his international squad, the player's agent confirmed there were clubs poised to pursue him. Alex Levack, who represents Nardiello, said: "Daniel's sole intentions in recent weeks has been to help Barnsley stay up. "Now that Barnsley have secured their future in the Championship, Daniel is in a position to look at the future." Barnsley will, no doubt, offer the striker new terms and manager Simon Davey will know that there's a good chance he will be out bid when it comes to Nardiello's wages and this summer could bring the end of the road at Oakwell for the former Manchester United trainee. If Nardiello does go there's an strong case for picking up the option on Peter Rajczi. The Hungarian's loan spell from Ujpest Dozsa ends after Sunday and a fee between the clubs has already been agreed to bring him back next year. He has been Nardiello's under-study in recent weeks, taking a place on the bench ahead of Paul Hayes and Marc Richards, who both look destined to leave. If re-signing Nardiello is top of Davey's priorities, retaining Brian Howard is a close second. Howard, the fans' player of the year, is a free agent after the game at The Hawthorns. Goalkeeper Nick Colgan, who is 33 and the veteran of the Barnsley squad, also finds his contract up for renewal alongside second choice keeper David Lucas and defenders Neil Austin and Antony Kay.

    Thanks for that

Howard is the main one we need to keep - all others can be replaced.

Nardy is great for 6 games a year

    Agree

Portsmouth and Manchester City?! I wonder what employment they have for him there? I guess the agent has other players on his list and is dealing with Harry the Horse Dealer and Pearce and just happened to pop Nardiello's name in alongside David James, Sol Campbell etc.

We need just to remain unmoved - offer Nardiello the contract we were going to (he will be worth it), but not be budged by the emotional blackmail stuff from the agent.

If I'm proved wrong and he gets a dream deal in Pompey/Man City reserves for a couple of years - well, good luck and well done, but it won't be as good playing midweek in front of a few as playing first team at Oakwell.
