    Simple as.
Frazier Campbell, a diamond lad on loan from Man U, scored twice inside 20 minutes and Dean Marney added a third just ahead of the final whistle to kick Barnsley's unbeaten in seven run into touch.
    Plucky, unlucky losers?
    Not last night.
This was England-South Africa World Cup rugby the first time around; this was Lewis Hamilton at the back of the grid powered by team Yorkshire Traction.
Not at the races, as they say in football-speak.
Barnsley boss Simon Davey's style is win or lose, either way, don't go spare. No victory parties, like-wise no wakes.
&quot; We've lost tonight, we've not lost points in the last X number of games, we've gone seven without defeat so let's not get carried away and think that we're on a losing streak,&quot; he reckoned.
It must be a worry though. More went wrong than right and having let in two early goals, Barnsley didn't look like scoring.
Davey did more than tinker. 4-4-2 then 4-3-3 plus all three subs and still Hull keeper Bo Myhill had it easy chair easy.
Weird really, Davey's team was as strong as it's ever been so far as they've hovered around the play-off places. Back came Anderson de Silva, back to the bench went Martin Devaney.
Encouragingly they even had the first half chance when Jamal Campbell-Ryce's cross-shot stretched keeper Myhill to finger-tip over.
Hull hadn't mounted an attack before they went 1-0 up. Dean Him wi' a reight shiner can't run too far or keep his mouth shut too long but he can still produce the pass of the game. He put the ball in the box, Campbell left Dennis Souza in his tracks before finishing low.
Campbell's home debut and second game for Hull just got better from then on for the first half. He might have got a second after Lewin Nyatanga gave away possession, Richard Garcia centred from the right and only Muller's keen eye and acrobatics prevented the goal.
Hull might have had a penalty. David Livermore this time plonked the ball into the dangerzone. Souza and Campbell hit the deck after a tangle of legs and elbows. Lucky for Barnsley ref Andy D'Urso was unimpressed by the homesters appeal.
Four minutes later and it was 2-0. Quality kid Campbell beat Souza and held off de Silva before shooting across Nyatanga's challenge and beyond Muller from penalty spot range.
Davey reflected: &quot;Hull's finishing was first class; he (Campbell) got two chances and scored them. He's got a big future ahead of him. He's a quality finisher and sharp and he finished us off straight away.
    &quot;It was Premiership class finishing. You give him a chance and he puts it in the back of the net. We gave him two which killed the game. If he'd only had one maybe we'd have had our tails a little bit more up. It was a mountain to climb and tonight for the first time this season we've not climbed it.&quot;
Hull kept piling forward and Barnsley rode their luck as Garcia skipped passed Dominik Werling before firing across the face of the goal from 18 yards out on wide right.
The second half could have been worse for Barnsley. In the opening moments a Livermore freekick from 30 yards rapped Muller's left hand post with the keeper no-where.
Barnsley changed shape with first Devaney adding width on the left in place of Grant McCann. Davey decided on major surgery in the 68th minute with right back Stephen Foster binned and striker Kim Christensen on.
Still the best Barnsley offered by way of a goal threat was a 25 yard run and 20 yard shot from de Silva. It fell one yard wide.
Finally Barnsley did make an entry in the <div id="ds-mpu"></div>game's running stats with Souza getting booked. Sky TV showed the centre back crack an elbow into Campbell's face in the first half and the Hull crowd were on his case long before ref D'Urso waved his yellow card. Souza went in again with illegal intent and Garcia hit the deck to provoke the booking.
Myhill made his only testing save of the evening in the last 20 minutes and that came as a panicked punch on a Devaney centre.
Hull had been happy to sit back on a 2-0 and it was only at the death they showed ambition to crank up the goal difference column.
The third goal came when sub Stephen McPhee beat Souza, his sprint further took him to the brink of the box where he released Marney. His drive along the ground went through Muller's dive.
In time added on Hull came again. Sam Ricketts' centre from a sharp angle hit McPhee at the near post before rolling Barnsley side of the goal-line. </div><div class="ds-modifieddate">Last Updated: 23 October 2007 9:27 AM</div>
