Barnsley chairman Gordon Shepherd confirmed he had not heard from Preston. He said that if there was an approach, it would be discussed at boardroom level. "We'd do the honourable thing and inform Simon, of course. But I cannot see us letting him go. He is under contract." Under his current deal, Davey would be free to leave in the summer. But talks between him <div id="ds-mpu"></div>and directors have been taking place. Davey had 11 years at Preston. He was a player before taking charge of the youth set up. His reaction to speculation that he is favourite to succeed Simpson was simply: "I already have a job. I am manager of Barnsley. Of course it is flattering but I have a job." Davey spent yesterday afternoon watching Barnsley Reserves 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday's second string. Kim Christensen headed home the winning goal in the second half. Defender Bobby Hassell played the entire game and is pressing for a first team comeback. It was his third game for the reserves after a long spell out with an knee injury which stretched all the way back to the summer. "He has played three games now and has been training with the first team. His level of fitness is up there for him to be considered for the first team group," Davey explained. </div> <div class="premiumoff" id="divWordCount">The full article contains 288 words and appears in Sheffield Star Barnsley newspaper.</div><div class="ds-modifieddate">Last Updated: 14 November 2007 9:27 AM</div><div class="ds-paging"><div class="centre">Page 1 of 1</div></div> </div>
Direct from this bbs more like. A manager gets a team to 10th in the 2nd tier of English football and that's it - he's in line for top jobs ? wibble.</p> </p>
What a brilliant non-story! Nobody has approached our manager and our chairman says we probably won't let him leave!
So the contract extension he was supposed to be getting still hasn't happened. Is there a theme here?
Dunno - but the contract he has at the moment (to the Summer of 2008) doesn't offer us much compensation if he leaves.
In The Daily Mirror As Well http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2007/11/14/preston-line-up-davey-89520-20105346/
there's a pattern here They will ask for permission to speak to him, we will refuse, a month or so later we will sack him and pay out compensation rather than receive some. Now where did this happen before???? hhhmmm........
Eh? "HANDS OFF DAVEY"</p> "Barnsley chairman Gordon Shepherd confirmed he had not heard from Preston." "He said that if there was an approach, it would be discussed at boardroom level."</p> We haven't heard anything but if we did we'd think about it but, **** off, you can't have him.</p>
