    They weren't.

    Never got there.

    Barnsley boss Simon Davey made the maximum number of changes to his team and the shape of his team during the match and was rewarded with a goal at a freekick and then finally a penalty converted in time added on.

    The manager who saw points dropped in minutes beyond the 90 against both Bristol City and Southampton, had something to celebrate on Day No 1, 2008.

    &quot;I thought it was thoroughly deserved; whether it ( a goal) comes in the 72nd minute or the 84th minute or 94th minute, it doesn't matter,&quot; Davey said. &quot;It's been the other way around for the last two weeks and it's horrible to take as a manager on the receiving end of it. But it's swings and roundabouts and we've got a penalty in the last minute and scored and we move on.

    &quot;The ball was bouncing around in that box a couple of times and we felt there had been a handball before but sometimes decisions don't go for you. Fortunately we've had the right decision in the last minute.&quot;

    Barnsley were painfully, very clearly second best for the first half but were not made to pay until the last minute before the interval.

    What do you think? Post your comments below.

    Ian Morris smashed a shot home from 12 yards as Barnsley hesitated over a right wing cross which looked to be handled by Martin Paterson. A flag went up but the whistle was silent and Morris made the most of the moment.

    He had really put Barnsley keeper Heinz Muller through his paces before then. Two rasping drives from the 25-30 yard range were kept out by the big German's razor reflexes.

    Jim Goodwin also tried his luck only to be foiled by Muller might.

    It should have been 1-0 to Scunny with 33 minutes gone. Paterson got in behind Dennis Souza in the chase for a long ball from Paul Hayes. Paterson raced in on Muller, who slowed him but could not stop him. That moment's delay allowed Lewin Nyatanga in after a lightning track back. His tackle was perfect. What a miss he is going to be when Derby reclaim him today from his loan at Barnsley.

    As it was Barnsley had nothing to show from that first half except a Martin Devaney shot off the target and a bit of decent work from Kayode Odejayi as he evaded keeper Joe Murphy and lobbed a dangerous ball into the box but too far from Istvan Ferenczi.

    Ferenczi and Devaney were binned at the break as Michael Coulson and Grant McCann came off the bench. Barnsley looked more business like but again Scnuthorpe struck. Hayes laid it out wide right for full back Kelly Youga to score <div id="ds-mpu"></div>his first ever goal from an acute angle with a low 20 yard drive.

    Barnsley then really moved into gear.
