The revelation is shown on Google Trends, a database which records what people from specific areas are typing into the search engine.

It also reveals Sheffield to be one of the most television-obessed places in the country. The city comes tops when it comes to typing in the phrases &quot;X Factor&quot; and &quot;Top Gear&quot;, and is second only to Thames Ditton in Surrey when it comes to typing in the phrase &quot;Strictly Come Dancing&quot; - the TV show which has made stars out of Rotherham-based dancing professionals Darren Bennett and his wife Lilia Kopylova.

'The Chuckle Brothers are searched for most by people in Hull'

Every time someone types a term into a search engine it leaves a digital &quot;footprint&quot; which can be recorded. Google has collated these searches geographically, offering a snapshot of the interests and obsessions of people in Sheffield - and showing how we compare to others.

Some results are less surprising than others. Proportionally more people in Sheffield type &quot;Wednesday&quot; into Google than anywhere else on earth. But Sheffield doesn't even get a look in with &quot;United&quot; - it's muscled out by cities like Denver and Washington.

Even the word &quot;Blades&quot; fails to see Sheffield trouble the top 10.

&quot;Steelers&quot; doesn't see Sheffield listed anywhere near the top, with the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers shoving Sheffield's ice hockey team well down the list.

Perhaps not surprisingly given the summer's disaster, Sheffield is listed second only to Brisbane in Australia for the word &quot;floods&quot;.

Google also shows that newly-knighted Barnsley TV chat show king Sir Michael Parkinson is searched for most in Watford - followed by internet users in Sydney and Adelaide in Australia. His home town doesn't even make the top 10.

Rotherham TV stars the Chuckle Brothers are searched for most by people in Hull - with Sheffield coming second. Rotherham doesn't even make it into th <div id="ds-mpu"></div>e top 10.

While Doncaster diva Lesley Garrett doesn't have enough searches on Google to show any data, the town's airport does. Robin Hood Airport is searched for most by people in Doncaster itself, followed by Scnuthorpe, Grimsby, Sheffield and then Rotherham.

Sadly Google only tells you so much. The results are only approximate, and Google doesn't say exactly how many people have searched for any individual topic. This is probably because the information is commercially sensitive and advertisers would pay hard cash to get hold of it.

So while this is the season of festive fun, we know that some of us are still pretty bored - we just don't know how many!
