Oakwell target Lewin Nyatanga played all of the third round replay against Sheffield Wednesday and striker Jon Macken, another player wanted by Barnsley boss Simon Davey, was on the bench.</div><div class="va-bodytext" id="va-bodytext">Both will be retained by Derby and are almost certain to be in the squad to face Preston in the cup's fourth round on Saturday.
Derby progessed last night at Hillsborough after a penalty shootout.
Davey and his staff are continuing their player search but the odds on recruiting before Friday's cup tie at Southend were decreasing by the day.

FA Cup fourth round rivals Southend scored their seventh goal in two games at Hartlepool last night. However the League One outfit were beaten 4-3. On Saturday Southend won 4-1 at Bournemouth.

Barnsley Reserves were in action this afternoon against Grimsby Town. The game was going <div id="ds-mpu"></div>ahead on one of the Academy pitches.

Striker Kim Christensen was again in the second string squad.
