Steele, who had been on loan from West Brom for a month, stayed away from Barnsley this week and while the club have scouted for a replacement, manager Simon Davey would welcome the player back on loan for the rest of the season initially. An agreement between the clubs will be a huge relief to 23-year-old Steele and looks likely to secure his immediate future as a Barnsley player. He remains eligible for the FA Cup semi final with Cardiff but if the final was between Barnsley and West Brom he would be barred from playing by FA Cup rules concerning loan players. West Brom face Portsmouth in a Wembley semi final on April 5 - the day before Barnsley face Cardiff. </div>
