Midfield options had been boosted by the capture of West Bromwich Albion's Ronnie Wallwork, Cheltenham's Grant McCann and West Ham United winger Kyel Reid but Barnsley lost out to Leeds in the race for Middlesbrough's former England international defender Ugo Ehiogu. Striker Tommy Wright, meanwhile, departed Oakwell to join League Two side Walsall on a two-month loan deal and Wolves have signed winger Michael McIndoe on loan until the January transfer window with a view to signing the player on a permanent contract.</div>
