It's been said before, but it needs saying again - what a bloody amazing programme. Truly - Television at its very best.

Once again, magnificent stuff. It has been a fantastic series. 2 left. The end bit where it showed the filming of the battle between the wolf and the bison was quite moving. The cameraman's words described my feelings exactly.

When exactly do Polar Bears eat?

According to Frozen Planet, never. For the last few weeks, during the spring, summer and autumn, we've been repeatedly told that as the ice shelf has melted the Polar bears can't get to their hunting grounds to catch seals and they've nowt to eat. We saw them scavenging a dead whale carcass and having a few berries, but basically they're starving. So I was looking forward to this week's episode so the poor buggers could finally get a decent meal. But no, as soon as winter arrives the female makes a den in the snow and hibernates for the winter not eating for months while we're told the male wonders the dark frozen seas and will be lucky to find the dead remains of a fox or maybe another polar bear, but basically it's a grim food free time.

    They never eat owt!

They're a fair ******* size for animal that basically survives on air.

Re: When exactly do Polar Bears eat?

    I was thinking the same
Also thinking that if the Buddists are right and we re- incarnate back as any animal I am not too keen on being a Polar Bear or male Emperor Penguin

the filming of the 2 wolves (well one actually doing the work) bringing down the young bison was just fantastic - if uncomfortable viewing

Yes, you're right - the male emperor penguin lot doesn't seem an appealing one. "I'm off eating for 3 months, you just stand here in the harshest conditions on earth, without moving, balancing this egg on your feet, until I get back. If you drop it, even for a second, our kid will freeze to death." Jeez, nature is just amazing at coping. The footage of the reaction when the females returned was fantastic.
