This is an appeal to BFC fans 30 somethings and over. Back in the late 70s/early 80s I often saw in the Ponty (and away games too) a character by the name of 'Fudge'. If you ever saw this guy you would never forget HIM due to his distinctive appearance and loud, highish pitched voice.. Smallish and thin he had hair down to his shoulders and a ZZ Top style beard, He always wore denims and the biggest flares you can imagine - even when drainpipe stretch jeans were all the rage! I can even remember when suddenly a lot of the fans started wearing the faded jeans, white trainers, designer tops etc, Fudge never became a fashion victim, sticking to the tried and trusted Denim outfit plus red and white bar scarf tied around his wrist. Everyone seemed to know him but - in a funny and sad sort of way - he never actually seemed to be with anyone at the match- if you know what I mean. If anybody remembers this guy and knows what's happended to him, does he still support the Reds etc I would be keen to know as I have not seen him for years.
Alive & well in Wombwell Dunt know if he stills follows the reds, Saw him in the Ashfield Club other setdy, he follows the clubland rock bands
Where's Liz Smith when you need him.
He used to have a big picture of Fudge as his signature!
C'mon Liz, give the man proof Fudge still exists!

Breaking my moritorium.
Fudge is Cool. He's OK.
I don't know if he still gets down to Oakwell.

Thanks for your replies. Gladly, it would appear he is still with us then and good to hear the denims should still have a few years left yet. The Union Jack Hat.......yeah, a Beenie Hat as I remember......................absolute legend that guy and seemed to be funny without ever really trying to be. Any pictures of him would bring the memories flooding back. That may sound sad, but that era seemed fantastic for me watching BFC - they could no wrong- massive crowds at Oakwell and away from home too, fantastic music and music being much more of a tribal thing than these days (and oh my lord so far better in quality and originality too)...................and playing footy in the playground modelling myself on the great Glav. (Sadly, never got to meet Aylott's wife though!). Throw in being able to scoff as much as I wanted whenever I wanted and still being thin as a rake and life don't get much sweeter. I wonder why Fudgey may have stopped going to the games??

Here you go .... Fudge is the handsome one on the far right, with a pint in is hand.
This pic was taken on a trip to Blackpool (70's), from the Ship Inn, at Wombwell. He's still fit and well, but doesn't go to matches now.

FAO. Philtyke .... remember this ? Your 21st birthday .... with Fudge as #1 guest (pint)
ps. Oh ! and Dyson .... was still a 'twinkle' inhis dads eye.

Blimey , I recognise the bloke from that photo We used to go up and down the country during the seventies & eighties watching Barnsley and that Fudge character was at every game . Always seemed to be on his own , but a very friendly and likeable lad .
RE: Blimey , I recognise the bloke from that photo Fudge, to us old farts seems to be one of the most recognisable Reds fans there has ever been. Thanks Liz Smith for that other photograph on another thread. That one more resembles the Fudge I remember well. Incidentally, I presume Fudge was his nickname,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,wonder how he got that?............Second thoughts, maybe should have not asked that question! Perhaps, Lord Fudge or Transhire should be honoured by a statue placed on the famous redundant plinth in Peel Sq. Would certainly be more worthy than Judas Wilson.
RE: Blimey , I recognise the bloke from that photo Correction Read - Lord Fudge of Tarnshire - no offence meant by that last typo.
Fudge............ Great bloke. Not a bad bone in his body (as my mum would say). I can well recall him all over the place in the 70's. (Y)
Definatly one of the more memorable blasts from the past, always remember going on a coach to Palace, when we went through Tooting all you could hear was Fudge going on abart Citezon Smith, funny the things you remember, think that might have been the day we stopped at the services, as we were about to leave a Bradford coach pulled in, after their lot got off some of the reds fans got on, knicked all their scarfs (you wernt allowed on the services with scarfs in those days), once the Bratfud fans realised they were straight back and after us....
