Kennedy - not very good, as usual, but better than Cranie at right back. It's not Cranie's position, which is kind of the point. We've been playing Kennedy because when we try anyone else at full back they're even worse.
Etuhu has been decent at right back in the games I've seen Selling Goldbourne was a big mistake as he was a far better left back than anyone else we have Young Bree looked to have potential
Completely agree & the strange thing is we've funded the signing of lots of midfielders & were carrying 16 of them at one point but we can't find the funds to get a lad in to compete with Kennedy. Crackers
Not wanting to be qll I told you so but before the season kicked off I said not signing a new left back would be our undoing and was slated by all and sundry for it
I reckon Wilson thought he'd got one. In his first game in charge, at Leeds, he dropped Kennedy and played Nyatanga at left back. I didn't go, but according to all the reports, he had a very good game. Unfortunately, Nyatanaga wasn't 100% fit and it set him back a few weeks, he wasn't available for the following games. Kennedy got his place back and played OK for a while. Wilson used Nyatanga at left back again at home to Blackburn. He was really poor. He actually made Tom Kennedy look good at right back. But it was too late by then. We'd already signed our full compliment of loan players and had just two more days before the transfer window shut. I very much doubt there's anything in Kennedy's contract that says he has to play. I've heard of loan contracts having such clauses but not contracted players. I just think it's a lack of alternatives.
He did well at Leeds in the sense that he defended well but he rarely went over the half way line. Nyatanga should only be played there in an emergency IMO. In the same way that Cranie should play right back if we've an injury crisis. Both natural centre backs. If we were absolutely skint I could understand why we went with one left back all season but the fact that we've signed a ridiculous number of midfielders shows the money was there. I think we'd have stayed up with Golbourne
