Who's been to an away game then? I bet there's not many that can say they have? To anyone that has, fair play old bean! And who was our first ever game against in it?
Presuming this is same as LDV Vans? Went to Bury a few years ago - saw us lose 2-0, play extremely bad in fronmt of around 1400 fans. Reight night art! No idea who first game was - maybe guessing at Sheff wed away - was on Sky and Banks got an hatrick. Think we drew 3-3 but won on pens.
I think it's been called Zenith Data Systems, LDV and Mrs Blenkinsop's Teacup. I can well remember the win at Swillsboro though - we were in the Longar Inn and it was a great atmosphere as it was on the telly and about 40-odd people were watching it. My mate, who was a Wednesday fan, came along and the ribbing he took was great. Fair play to the chap cos he took it on the chin - mind you he wasn't shy in dishing out the smarm etc. Just out of interest, how many Reds fans were at that Gigg Lane encounter?
Relative to it being on a Tues night and in such a tin pot trophy we took around 150 which I thought wasn't too bad given the circumstances.
Owen Archdeacon with a brace and Dean Connelly scored at Hillsborough Ian Banks scored a hat trick in the previous round , when we won 5-3 at West Bromwich Albion .
The Ldv game at Hillsboro We took around 4 thousand fans - crowd about 13K - amazing really for that competition. Lost last min to Michael Reddy goal.
That ain't too bad a following especially when you consider what we took to Sheff Wed on the evening i mentioned which, by all accounts was about 4-600. I could well be wrong though - just going on what i was told. Incidentally, anyone remember the County Cup ties they used to have? The reason i ask is that in the late 70's we played Shef Wed away and a certain chap took it upon himself to stand on the Kop with his alsation. I think that was about 1979?
Err So is this the right answer to your original question then or what?? http://www.barnsleyfc.org.uk/BBS/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=68101&mid=428786#M428786
Anglo Italian...... Now the memory is getting a tad dodgy - mixture of fun/ wives/ kids etc - but i seem to recall we played Derby at home in one of these ties around the early 90's and there was a kerfuffling about something said to a certain Mr Spinks. Apparently someone said (in the way) " Let's hope we do these Spinksy" to which the reply was (along the lines of) "I hope not - think of the expense of a trip to Italy".
Looks like I was right about the team But wrong about the penalty shoot out score. http://www.the-english-football-archive.com/domestic_competitions/results/full_members_cup/1987.htm The competition was first held the previous season but, along with a host of other clubs, we chose not to enter. This lead to people nicknaming it "The Empty Members Cup".
RE: Owen Archdeacon with a brace and Dean Connelly scored at Hillsborough I went to the one at Hillsbro, I think the crowd was approx 5k and big Ron who was their manager at the time was doing touchline commentary for sky.
