FULL TIME FROM OAKWELL Posted on: Sat 25 Apr 2009 BARNSLEY 1 (Macken 58) WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS 1 (Reid 85) BARNSLEY almost had Championship safety in their grasp before ex-Oakwell loan man Kyel Reid stunned Oakwell into a shocked silence with a late leveller for Wolves. It's all going to the final day at Plymouth. After a week of fitness and injuries worries, Reds boss Simon Davey was relieved to be able to name an unchanged side from the one robbed at Coventry City on Tuesday. Adam Hammill, Darren Moore, Bobby Hassell and Rob Kozluk all shook off illness and injury to feature against the champions elect. Stephen Foster was still missing although Michael Mifsud returned to the bench. Wolves were on the front foot from the first whistle and Marlon Harewood threatened to continue their party inside two minutes as he raced in on goal buy Hassell was in the right place to make a fine block on the edge of box. At the other end a quickly worked free kick gave Hammill a shooting chance seconds later but the winger saw his low effort clip the foot of the wall and bounce clear. Daniel Bogdanovic then forced Stephen Ward to head over his own bar on eight minutes as he challenged for Jon Macken's flick on as the Reds upped the tempo and pushed Wolves back. Barnsley should have been in front two minutes later as Jamal Campbell-Ryce's near post cross gave Hammill a great opportunity but the winger was denied by Wayne Hennessey. The loose ball bounced for Bogdanovic but Christophe Berra was somehow able to hack it away off the line. Hennessey was again a very lucky man on 15 minutes as he came for and dropped Hassell's deep free kick but Moore just could not forced the ball goalward under pressure from Berra. Hassell then did well to break forward a minute later but dragged his left-footer well wide of the target. The alarm bells were ringing on 19 minutes after Dennis Souza pulled Dave Edwards back on the edge of the box. Souza was booked but Kevin Friend's free kick came to nothing. Friend managed to get the loose ball back into the danger area but Luke Steele was more than equal to Matt Jarvis' weak header. Karl Henry fired Wolves' first real shot at the target on 27 minutes but his effort drifted well wide of Steele's goal. Wolves were rattled again on 29 minutes as Hassell's free kick caught out the visitors defence. Moore had a great chance 12 yards out but opted to head the ball down and Anderson snatched his shot well wide of Hennessey's post. Harewood should have picked up a deserved caution on the half hour for barging through Steele after the Reds keeper had grabbed a high ball. It was a needless challenge to make and Harewood really ought to have been booked. Wolves looked decidedly dodgy from set pieces and Hammill's corner caused no end of problems on 38 minutes as Moore and Bogdanovic went for the ball but the visitors were able to clear their lines. Wolves boss Mick McCarthy changed things around at the break with Harewood and Friend making way for Sam Vokes and ex-Red Reid. A slip by Moore almost put Vokes clean through on 50 minutes but the defender was saved by Hassell's fine challenge and clearance. Barnsley were finally behind Wolves on 54 minutes as Macken managed to shake off his marker to race onto Souza's pass but Jody Craddock managed to get a foot in and deny the striker a run on goal. Moore then flashed a header just over the top two minutes later as he beat Berra to Kozluk's long throw as the Reds pressed for the breakthrough. The pressure was lifted on 58 minutes as Anderson's cross fell to Bogdanovic in the area. The striker's shot bounced off Berra and into the path of Macken, who rolled the ball into the back of the net at the second attempt. Oakwell went absolutely mental. Macken turned provider three minutes later as his pass put Bogdanovic free but the striker was always going to struggle to get his shot on target and blazed high over from a tight angle. The Reds did not have it all their own way and Jarvis' cross on 64 minutes looked certain to give Reid a goal when the ball dropped at the far post but Steele was magnificent and threw his body on the line to make an outstanding save. Hammill made way on 70 minutes after a fine shift on the wing. The Liverpool lad was limping a little when he was replaced by Andranik. Wolves created half a chance on 74 minutes as the ball fell for Vokes on the edge of the box but the striker volleyed well wide. Edwards picked up a caution on 77 minutes for dissent after tripping Anderson right by the corner flag. Hugo Colace went close from Andranik's free kick as the ball dropped on the edge of the box but his effort flew into the CK Beckett Stand. Jarvis was still determined to drag Wolves back into the game and his cross on 79 minutes gave Reid half a chance but Kozluk was in the right place to clear the danger. Campbell-Ryce almost put the icing on the cake on 81 minutes as he raced past Kevin Foley before drilling the ball goalward but Henry was in the right place to make a telling block and the ball flew high over. Wolves rocked Oakwell on its heels on 85 minutes as Jarvis again led the Reds a merry dance before picking out a Reid at the back post and this time the ex-Barnsley man found the bottom corner with a low drive. The goal was followed by a massive pitch invasion by the Wolves supporters as they swamped their players down by the North Stand. The big chance came for the Reds deep in stoppage time as Kozluk's run and cross gave Mifsud an opportunity but the striker was denied by a fine block. Souza then flashed one wide from Andranik's corner. BARNSLEY: Steele, Hassell, Souza, Moore, Kozluk, Campbell-Ryce, Anderson, Colace, Hammill (Andranik 70), Macken, Bogdanovic (Mifsud 78).
