Few weeks back when the Jan window closed, there we're some calls that we should be signing xyz like the Derby's and Bolton's of the world. Well Derby are taking their 5k fans home pointless again and Bolton are crumbling with some saying Evatt needs to go. Very mature performance that, we knew how to beat them and dealt with their predictability. Said it before it will go to last game of the season maybe the last kick but Collins has got this group focused in chipping away at the gap bit by bit, I'd rather be the hunter than the hunted right until the last moment. You paitent Reds
It might just be me but Collins has got the fans into the chipping away mindset. It's great. It's stopped us putting points on the board in our heads before a balls kicked. It doesn't matter if it's Fleetwood or Derby the mentality should be the same. Long may that continue.
Yep it's all about what we do and how we apply ourselves, do the fundamentals and we beat anybody in this league. For what it's worth I didn't think we were spectacular today but the intelligence and maturity shown was first class. We just looked like we knew we'd beat them, we find a way.
I was thinking that earlier today as well, about the Leyton Orient game. Some of us (myself included) thought at half time that day, that 2nd place was 9 points away and totally out of our reach. Look at how things can change ehh, not just in that match, but in the matches since then as well. A funny old game indeed!.
Unbelievable how many games we have won since Reading away. Winning after being behind. 5 I think after going 2yrs+.
Derby had a dip in form towards the end of last season and I'd not be surprised if it happened again with an aging squad.
They do regularly take a large away following in fairness to them. But a bit like their rivals Notts Florist, a lot of them have a seriously deluded and outdated attitude. Great under Cloughie Snr in the early 70s of course, but that doesn't give them a divine 'right' to be in the higher divisions. Teams like Barnsley ehh!!.
I'm surprised how low the expectations have been for Collins, we've got a great group of players that took the possibility of promotion to the very last kick of a ball last May so why shouldn't we be a serious challenger this season.
Well I was shocked how poor Derby were . Even likes of Exeter were better . If we can beat Bolton at home ,a top 2 finish is achievable, I had to suffer watching the game alone with 10 Derby fans. It was so funny to see them going from football fans to watching the rugby. I didn't mention this at all .
Without being condescending, I think that’s the most profound and insightful thing I’ve ever seen you say on here. And having thought about it, you’re 100% correct in my opinion. He’s aligned the players and fans with this mentality and the longer the season goes, the better I can see us performing.
Having played both Derby and Bolton recently there was absolutely nothing about either that terrified me, Portsmouth tore us a new one for the first 20 mins but we stank the place out defensively but could have nicked a point, they'll not face a tougher test all season at Fratton Park. It's those mid table nothing to play for fixtures that worry me most see Exeter and Lincoln away last season for reference. Still an awful long way to go, 42 points to play for, I think we'll need 32 from 42 for automatic.
It was something to do with losing key players at the back ,replacing them with unproven defenders, main player sick for so many early games. He did the best he had to work with, and still kept us up there in contention. He as plugged the gap where the problem was with 4 very key defenders now. We can only get better from here ,and we need to get the home fans out of our seats now, playing on the front foot. He as done a very good job so far.
I think Exeter were just our bogey team. They beat us fair & square last season twice & then this season at our place they were fortunate we were missing both Connell & Kane. Luck plays a massive part. Lincoln were bang in form when we played them away last season. Hopefully everyone we drop on is on a bad run.
