Brilliant goal! Great desire to beat that man on the touchline despite his best efforts to foul Bale, like the commentator said, how many other players would've just gone down for the free kick?

The pace was immense. He's had a good season out there this year.

I think people are finally realising that you can have as much possession as you want but if you don't score it's not much use, they had 83% of the possession against Granada and lost 1-0.

Your spot on there, possession doesn't win games does it?

Quote from Alex Ferguson in his book "Possession is nothing without penetration"

Someone should have told flicker that this season

They did have possession with penetration a few years back though.

I think Xavi in particular & possibly Iniesta aren't what they once were. Both seem to lack sharpness & hang on to the ball longer than they used to. Years of non stop football without summer breaks due to world cups, euros & confederations cup won't have helped. Messi's had his injury problems too & Neymar doesn't seem to fit.

I think it's safe to say they are on the way down & the transfer ban won't help. They've got serious issues with their goalkeepers & defence.

I know it's within the rules but how far off the pitch did he run to get round that defender??

Gareth Bale used to be the worst culprit for that.

    This.

Was expecting some mazey dribble followed by a 25 yard rocket but he just does the guy for pace essentially. Good goal but not great imo.

Don't follow Spanish football at all, but yesterday I happened to read this on the BBC website:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27032391

Seems to suggest he's having an average season. Further reading reveals he's scored 19 goals and provided 15 assists. Wish we had players having average seasons who contributed that. I wonder if we've ever had a player who has scored 19 goals (20 now) and set up a further 15 in one season.

Very good goal. Keeper was shocking though. Near post, legs wide open.
