Still without a club, plenty of experience we will never sign him but would he be a good signing for us or his he past it?
Reading in today's paper that former Swansea Stoke and Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony is without a Club. He's thirty years old and to keep his fitness levels up, he's currently training with Second Division side Newport County. He could do a job coming off the bench a bit like Jason Scotland did when he was with us.
Scotland did OK, not sure Bony could do it, purely based on his record 2016 onwards..I'd say league 2 or league 1 worth a shout but reckon the championship has opened up a bit of a gulf in quality with those leagues now. Be interesting to see if he signs for anyone though.
It would be a great signing. It gives stendel the experience he wants and might encourage him to extend
Not in the slightest no. He’ll want big wages. He’s 38. Not played a competitive game since March. He won’t be able to play in a high tempo pressing team now. I’d rather give game time to Styles. If it was a centre back we were going for at that age I would have less of a problem but in the position that going to be the most mobile? No.
I was under the impression he's re signing for West Brom, after Slaven Bilic offered him a new contract, once he's recovered from knee surgery.
If we’d change our tactics to accommodate a defensive midfielder and Dougall is still out then fair enough as long as he fits in the wage structure I’d be up for it.
Imagine Barry and Bony attempting to play the high press. One runs like his knees are glued together and the other is 38 years old.
Bony was reportedly on £120k per week at Swansea. He could probably achieve at least half that by going to China. Why oh why doesn’t anyone think he’d consider relocating to Barnsley to be a bit part player on a (relatively) peanuts salary?
This is the problem when looking at “experience”. Barry would actually be a great signing sitting in front of back four, helping young lads out. Even as an option on the bench. But he’ll be on tens of thousands a week. Absolutely no chance he’d want to come to Barnsley and no chance we’d pay his wages.
It's an interesting point though. Say you're Gareth Barry. You've made millions of pounds from the game. Played at Villa and City amongst others in very successful teams. How much do you love the game? Would you drift down the leagues like a Merson or Sheringham or just pack it in and get the Talksport/Sky Sports gig. Or even try management. Depends on the character of each person I suppose. Edit: no idea what point in trying to make like
liverpool looking to loan herbie kane out again.....always looked a handful against us for doncaster? worth a shout?
