Appointed the new Yorkshire CCC captain in all three formats. Personally don't agree with the decision at all, thought Alex Lees would have been given the opportunity as last season he took on the role in white ball cricket.

To be fair I think Lees needs to concentrate on realising his (huge) potential. I think the one day captaincy came too early for him last year and he grew in to it but had some shaky times. If Balance isn't going to be involved with England (as looks likely) I think this is a good move.

Ballance needs to re-establish himself in the Yorkshire side so this seems an odd one to me. He's not really worth a place for either Yorks or England on current form but, hopefully, that will come back next season. On the other hand, pressures of captaincy might make him even worse.

Interesting to see how things go next Spring under the new regime.

As you point out he's currently not worth a place in the Yorkshire side and if his woeful form continues into next season with the added pressure of the captaincy in all three formats then it could be a disaster!!

I think that's a bit harsh. He averages 47 in first class cricket and 47 in one day cricket. Even his test average is still 39.

Last season wasn't his best but he was coming back in to form for Yorkshire when he was surprisingly called up by England, and still averaged 36 (far down on his standards but I wouldn't say he isn't worth his place, we haven't got a plethora of free-scoring middle order batsmen!).

And as for pressure of captaincy, he averages 75 as Yorkshire captain (albeit from 3 games).

I don't really see an alternative other than bringing in an experienced overseas player (or another English player from elsewhere) as captain. Whatever else happens they certainly need to bolster the middle order for next year.

I think it's a good choice, he's not going to play for England for the foreseeable future and is a trop drawer county player.

Wouldn't get in the Hoylandswaine team on last seasons form. Hopefully captaincy would be the making of him, but i'd have prefered Lees because one captain across all formats should be the way to go.

He is going to be captain across all formats mate, he's replaced Lees.

As above he still averaged 36 last season

Ahh right cheers thought he was just replacing Gale as four day captain. Would have prefered Lees across all formats. Important now to recruit well because we could do with three batters if we include an overseas player. Would like to see Travis Head back the latest in a long line we've helped get recognised by their country. Obviously need a replacement for Gale brought in and last season we were light as it was in the top half of the order. It's a shame Surrey poached from Durham so well.

Yeah, definitely need to strengthen the middle order. We need a run machine who won't get an international call up!

    Yes please.

When I was a kid my dad took me to Abbeydale (when Yorkshire still played some games there) so I could see this young Indian kid who they reckoned was going to be a good prospect. I got to meet him and got his autograph. Don't think he did much in that actual game, but he had a pretty decent career after that did Sachin.

IPL until early June. Probably tests or ODI/T20s with the Indian team after that.

A mate of mine played for Yorks in 92/93 when Sachin was there. Wherever they went in God's Own County it was free currys or Indian banquets. 8 days a week. Most players, esp Goughie, put weight on over the course of a year. No nutritional coaches in those days
