Actually.... ... I'm just wondering what the general feeling from the fans is about these short term loan signings. I mean, we've had a couple that have had the fans baying for a permanent deal (Lumsdon springs to mind) only to have the piss taken out of us in the long term. Personally I think short loans are OK providing they are used to fill a critical position left open through injury etc. Taking constant punts on whether they'll be able to perform miracles is probably delusional.
My view is providing they are players we have been watching and would struggle to get on a permanent deal, they are the best way of a club like ours of strengthening the side. Gives both sides the opportunity to have a look at each other and see if it could work permanently. Macken, Nyatanga and De Silva were good examples last season. When its a distressed or panic deal, like it seems Ritgers and Teale were, then I think its bad news and more often doomed to fail. And says a lot about our commitment to give youth players a chance to break through.
RE: My view Good points. Though I guess I SD thinks the youth aren't ready he's not likely to throw them into the side. If it was me, I'd prefer the lions in the Colosseam that the confidence shredding 'encouragement' from the Eaststand.
I don't know why we brought Teale in I know Campbell-Ryce was injured, but right wing is one of the few positions in the team where we have a direct replacement in Devaney. I'm not a fan of short term loans. Invariably, the player brought in is not getting a game at his club, so is short on match fitness. By the time they're up to speed it's time to go back again. There's also the question of whether their heart is really in it. Deon Burton being a case in point. I'd much prefer the manager to put together a balanced squad that can cover for the odd injury and suspension. We've got three right backs, but no left back, 5 forwards, but only one left sided midfield player. Imbalance like that is always going to cause you problems.
RE: I don't know why we brought Teale in Agreed. There's also the issue of the loans from bigger clubs insisting they get a start whether they deserve it or no. Pisses the other players off and is hardly a positive incentive to perform.
Is this the same Teale that played for Wigan ??? Because if it is then we have potentially a reight player at the club Everytime i watched Wigan on the tele a couple of seasons back he was always the one that caught the eye, a lightening fast player
