Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has opened the door on a sensational return to former club Rangers. The world champion started his career at Perugia, but transferred to the Scottish team in 1997 at the age of 19. “I don't know when it will happen, but it will happen,” said the World Cup hero, who is contracted to Milan until 2011. “I just have to go back and it's a promise I have made to both myself and chairman David Murray. “I spoke to him in August in Edinburgh and he told me the door will always be open for me. “There won't be any problems with money. I know they're going through a bad time from a financial point of view and I won't go there to take a pension either." Gattuso was sold by Rangers in October 1998 to Salernitana for £3m, bbefore moving to Milan in 1999 in an £8m deal. “When I left Glasgow I was forced to flee almost like some sort of thief, at four in the morning. That's stuck in my throat since then. “I'm a player who wants people to see how much I put into things, not someone who just runs away in the night. “I have a debt towards the Rangers’ fans because of the way I left, they helped me get where I am and I just have to go back,” said Ringhio, who is married to a Scot. “I don’t want to go at 35 or 36, I’ll go when I still have something to offer to the team, both at a European level and in the Scottish League.” Gattuso, who is 28-years-old, made appearance No 300 with the Rossoneri in the Champions League 0-0 draw against Lille in September.
