Generally, is 1080i better than 720p ?

    1080p isn't generally better than 720p!! Given that there's very little true 1080p output from anyone, 720p is the 'natural' resolution for most current HD sources. 1080i might offer you a little more artificially-created 'sharpness', but it can't add any more detail if the detail isn't there in the first place - only what it thinks ought to be in the gaps between resolution lines.
