Unlucky! Newly-promoted Genoa have been demoted from Italy's Serie A to the third division for match-fixing. President Enrico Preziosi and general manager Stefano Capozucca have been banned from football for five years. The Italian League's disciplinary commission investigated a 250,000 euro payment made to Venezia before Genoa's 3-2 win at the end of last season. Victory over already-relegated Venezia gave Genoa promotion but phone taps revealed the result was "guaranteed". Venezia managing director Francesco Dal Cin was also given a five-year ban. And Martin Lejsal and Massimo Borgobello, players with Venezia last season, were given bans of five and six months. Genoa will start their campaign in Serie C1 next season with a three-point penalty imposed by the League and have to feed a reserve player to lions every fortnight..
How stupid can you be?! They were playing an already relegated team so they were more than likely to win anyway! And that's about £170,000... a hell of a lot of money, even though promotion would earn them a lot more. It was always likely to be found out I'd think. By the way, what happens to Venezia then? They're surely equally to blame.
RE: How stupid can you be?! There's already been two clubs relegated from Serie A for "financial irregularities".
oh dear god i'm stupid Ive just got that. I thought it meant that the lions was a nickname of another crap team and they had to become a feeder club for them with their reseve team. oops
