Season ticket holder from 2009-2015, saw us struggle in championship until we finally fell through the trapdoor into league 1. The majority of that time i was watching a team performing above expectations purely on the spirit given by motivational managers and the fans. We seemed to be in a constant loop of fighting relegation then a struggle to bounce back. The 'spreadsheet approach' is a god send. All the signings we're making fit the new mold of barnsley (from what i've seen). We've chosen a direction and a route and everyone is aligned to push us along. No stand-out star that we try to fit everyone else around (a Paddy McCourt etc). Vast majority of our signings are <22 (not 100% sure), and all fit the fast pressing possession based game we're looking to play. Physical and mobile players, comfortable on the ball and seem to have a strong desire to succeed. We don't buy into hype surrounding players, we trust the numbers. The majority of them will move on within 2-3 years, and i wouldn't be surprised if Stendel is pinched come next summer. But that's not the end of our club, they are just cogs (admittedly important ones) in our machine. We'll replace them and keep building. New young players will replace them and will raise the standard of our team. For this season i think that if we are able to stay up, regardless of finishing position, we'll be pushing play-offs (premiership) in 4-5 seasons. Obvs assuming that the owners continue to support the club, and don't start taking money out. But i'm genuinely excited about where our club can reach if we stick with our principles in the long run.
Welcome! I agree, its great to have players who are loving their football and who by the looks of it want to be here. Unfortunately I think you may be right about losing Daniel this summer BUT if he thinks he can get us to the premiership I think he will stay.
He hasn't said that they have, he said they haven't taken it out. We've sold a few players and brought in ten so far, some for what is suspected of being 7 figure sums. Then you have to allow for sign on fees and agent's fees. I'm not saying we've spent up, but a fair amount has gone back into player sales so far.
I see continuing to support the club as reinvesting money back into the club and living within its means. If you want them to chuck millions at it, breach FFP and risk the club's long term future then fair enough. I'd suggest you'd enjoy supporting the likes of Man City more, though.
Then in that case I declare the continued success intrinsically linked to my support of the club. If only it would give me a couple of million £ like it does them for my continued support.
In your mind there’s no middle ground between our financial management and Man City’s? Please continue, your poorly thought out arguments are hilarious.
My poorly thought out arguments? No club should need a wealthy owner in reality, all clubs should live within their means. I find it sad that you and others want to do otherwise just because everyone else is. If I could choose between this era and the pre-Sky financial boom, I'd choose that era every time. Owners should not need to plough cash into the team. If they then were to walk away we're screwed. Your attitude towards others on here is absolutely appalling, by the way. You are incapable of speaking to others politely. This guy has posted for the first time and your post to him reads poorly. Speak to others like you would in person. I doubt very much you'd speak to me for instance like you have in that last sentence. Everyone can be a keyboard warrior.
Is it possible that despite all your pseudo liberal posturing you might just be the most tiny bit xenophobic?
The point is it isn’t that time, football has moved on and just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it true. I asked him a question, engaging with his post. Engaging doesn’t have to mean agreeing, you then weighed in telling me to fck off and support another club. Glass houses.
What the devil has nationality got to do with any of this? Very confusing allegation based on literally nothing. Please do elaborate, as I would be very interested to find out what would possess you to conflate my question of the owner’s investment in the club with xenophobia? Or are we all just going full on slandering me because I have the temerity to engage in a way you don’t agree with?
Let me help you: Barnsley man sells the f.ck out of the team at any available opportunity. Sells the club, likely making millions of pounds of profit over his tenure. You’re alright with it. Foreign owners come in. Sell some assets, but spend significant money on replacements. Do not withdraw a pound from the club You are full of indignant fury. Does that help?
Wow, if you had read my previous comments, you would know that is entirely unfounded as I criticised the previous regime selling off assets just has hard, if not harder in January 2017. I do not mind people getting aggro with me because they hold a different view point but I would appreciate if you wouldn’t try to twist it into something that it is absolutely not ie xenophobia. I am happy to engage in your replies as long as you like to clear that up. Ps- please find any posts I have criticised the nationality of the owners, in fact the only time I have posted about it have been when people criticised them not being local when they first bought the club and when Dragon Tyke was overtly racist about them shortly after taking over.
I just don’t get where your absolute anger comes from over these owners. Of course they’re ultimately here to make money. But it’s not like they’re absolutely rinsing us at every opportunity - nothings been withdrawn from the club yet. It seems to me very clear they’re about capital appreciation by improving the value and status of the club, not about making money through asset stripping.
