vista keeps telling me my office is not a genuine copy and in 13 days it will mark it as not genuine. what exactly is this going to do will it lock me out of my office program?

    Is it genuine?
If it is a hooky copy then you can buy it, search for a crack to circumvent the copy protection (illegal) or use an alternative instead (openoffice.org)
If it is genuine but giving you this message in error, contact Microsoft technical support and they'll sort it out.

Note that if you bought (or were supplied with a previous PC) an OEM version of Office, then that version is tied to the PC it is first installed on. If you later install it to another PC you would need to buy a new licence and if this is the case the message is correct.

    I'm not sure

I think all updates to the program will be blocked and I think it will persistently nag you to upgrade but as far as I know, it won't stop working.

    fair do's

If you're not a regular user - just the odd letter or simple spreadsheet, try OpenOffice.org
It's not as comprehensive and fully featured as Microsoft Office and some of the more advanced tasks aren't quite as easy or user friendly.
However, it covers the basics well and given that it's free, you can't beat it on price.

    Should be.
You sometimes find it's not quite perfect and some of the formatting in more complex documents may be lost.
    Compatibility is pretty good though.
