What I peoples feelings for the up coming season, I've got to be honest I'm probably feeling less optimistic than I have done for a while but having said that I haven't managed to get to any of the friendlies so I can't really pass comment on any of the new lads.
At the moment im feeling fairly optimistic, we need new players in certain positions, however i am confident Hill will get that sorted.
What will be will be, we all know the predicament our club is in with finances, but we are in the second tier of English football again and we are playing by the rules, all the players are trying 100%, and i'm proud to be a Barnsley supporter, most of the team is very limited in there abilities, but what do you come to expect when your playing in a very strong league, with some top top clubs, and trying to work within your means, we will be relegated at some point due to the stance the club as took regards the FFP, but as long as we stick the our principles i'm not that bothered to be honest. i just intend to enjoy this fantastic league wile we're still here
Similar feeling to last season, no idea how we'll do as it depends so much on how new players add to a pretty average base squad from last year. If I'm honest, I'm probably more concerned than any other summer since we were promoted, simply because whilst I think the midfield is reasonably strong, I think we look devoid of goal threat and highly likely to concede every game. I see Davies as a 12 goal man, Dagnall/Rose/Clark all at around 3-5 for the season. Presuming Mido doesn't feature much until October, we really need a forward.
I'm reasonably optimistic and think we will finish mid table. I still think we need some more players, a centre half is a must and after today another striker or two but I think Hill will move us forwards.
Genuine question, why do you think that? He has the worst PPG of ANY manager we have had! He signed the players that finished last season and has not addressed the weaknesses in the squad that even Stevie Wonder can see! So WHY? I know we played a couple of good games last season, but we played a heck of a lot more crap ones. Under Robins we played some lovely games when we had Hammill in the side then we went down hill, but last season we were even worse, I am sure it was you that said Hill would not let the same happen last season and it was worse.
From what i've seen in the friendlies so far we look to be playing the same as we were towards the end of the season which is worrying. Unless something changes I think we will struggle.
A few days ago I predicted we'd finish 16th. It's my opinion we need to bring in a couple of strikers (especially after today's bad injury to Mido), a big, nasty centre half and another creative midfielder to compliment Mellis.
Re: A few days ago I'm optimistic by nature, and believe that anything can happen, so I think that we will make hard work of this season, but will stay up. Which is what I really want to happen. At the moment nothing is written in stone.
I don't know, call it blind faith but just got a good feeling about the season and I really rate Hill as a manager. The second half of last season was terrible but the first half was a joy to watch so I'm hoping we can put the lows of last season behind us and get playing some football again. Either way I think Hill deserves a bit of patience.
I see no difference in the last 2 seasons. Except we were not as bad under Robins! On here Robins got some really bad stick for the way the season petered out, yet Hills team were worse and they were the players that HILL brought in, I know we lost 3 midfielders, but he brought more in, but I also didnt like Robins. Didnt like the things I heard about how his teams played before he came here, but I admit I liked the way he had us playing with Hammill in the side. Hill had us playing some decent stuff, but some of the stuff we played last season was amongst the worst I have seen in 40 odd years and there was a lot more crap than good stuff at Oakwell.
Re: A few days ago I've generally been optimistic before previous seasons but can't help thinking we've done next to nothing to solve our deficiencies and I fear we may end up cast well adrift. We needed three defenders, at least one of which was a Moore-esque leader and a credible striker and have got none of these.
True; our seasons did just fizzle out to a whimper but we saw a lot more good football under Hill than we saw under Robins. Aside from a small handful of games under Robins, five maybe six, it was utter dross. I don't like to compare managers because there are too many variables to make it a fair comparison but pound for pound Hill is a better manager IMO. Given the same budget I'd much rather pay to watch a Hill team than a Robins team.
Disagree , they were /are both not good enough. We had some garbage well before xmas, not just after , as been said on here loads of times. Hill thinks he is the new Fergie and Robins just thinks!!
relegation. Back to putting a tenner on every side we play against to win. That way even if we lose i can take some consolation
