Seems it's rather popular and I fancy giving it a go when out with dogs

I don't geocache, because, for me, it is a good walk wasted, but I do use a walker's GPS when walking. The GPS is great, especially when walking paths you don't already know, or when finding new ones, even in areas with which you are familiar. Great piece of kit - I have Garmin e-Trex 20. The downloading of maps is a nightmare, but the kit works superbly when the downloads are in place. I use 1:25k OS maps, as they show details like field boundaries, but, if you just want to geo-cache, you don't need the maps. I know a lot of folks who do geo-cache. It's addictive and it keeps you fit, so ok if that's your hobby.

For maps I find Memory Map pretty straightforwards
I bought the PC version then you can sync to an iphone - or proper GPS device as you get 5 licences
No interest in Geocaching but I do like to look back at the walks I have done -and also if you are up the fells in the mist having a you are here on a map in your hand can be quite handy
