After hearing all the hypocritical bits about Bestie from the media and so called fans/supporters, lets get this in perspective and I dont care who I upset its my view, ONCE AN ALCOHOLIC ALWAYS AN ALCOHOLIC, talented footballer that was wasted and misled by loads of hangers on and cronies and people that werent after him just his money. Alex Best, let me the first to shoot the bitch.......... if it wasnt for her George might still be under control and alive, once she left him that destroyed the guy no matter what he'd done, he wasnt an angel nobody can say they are perfect, me included, I will remember George Best for the football anything else is self inflicted which doesnt deserve any sympathy, I respected 1 min silence, the people that didnt arent footy fans......... rant over. If anybody is upset by my views TOUGH I tell it how I see it and dont care aboutr the outcome, Life is too short and you got to live life for what it is, read my bits on my profile and you will see what I mean, I know most people on this board that know me understand Respect to Bestie for the football, RIP
I don't think Bestie expected any sympathy! He, more than most, knew the damage drink had done to him - and the damage he had done to others because of drink. If you listen to his last interview (in Ulster) a month before he went into hospital for the final time, he said he only wanted to be remembered for his football. In that respect - anybody who saw him play will NEVER forget him because he was a true genius. Bear in mind that the clips shown on TV now are only a brief summary of his performances. More often than not he played like that EVERY week.
RE: I don't think Bestie expected any sympathy! Thats what Im trying to say, it just makes me so mad that the media who were quick to pull him down when he was in the wrong all of a sudden patronise the guy, the guy was a legend in footy and for pele to respect him that says it all, the nearest we have in present day led astray is Gazza another bloke who could have bneen a legend
Yep - you're right Deano - that's typical of the press though!! Slate somebody one week - make a hero of them the next! Gazza was good, but not a patch on Bestie - and Rooney's still got a few years left in him yet to prove whether he can match Georgie or not.
"Alex Best, let me the first to shoot the bitch.......... if it wasnt for her George might still be under control and alive, once she left him that destroyed the guy no matter what he'd done" Didn't see leave him when he went back on the booze, and wasn't it reported that he hit her? So she should have stopped with someone hitting her should she?
So lemme get this straight He started drinking again whilst on holiday with her, very supportive family. He was having an affair with a woman who went to the papers. He is on record as having beaten her up. Why should Alex best take the blame for his behaviour? Should all women stay with abusive alcoholics? I was brought up but with one, believe me it aint pretty having the ***** kicked outta ya at 17 to make you divi up your wages for his ale or literally having the food taken from your plate. Imagine going home and never knowing who was waiting for you, the charmer or the beast waiting to kill you. Alex was right to go. She had her safety to protect. You're right once an alcoholic always an alcoholic, ask Tony Adams, but it is possible to sstay sober. I adored Georgie Best for his skill his sublime abilities and agree a life wasted but never ever blame the families of alcoholics. It is NEVER their fault.
People seem to forget ...... .... that many of the current generation of football fans have no recollection of George Best as a footballer - I'm 37 and was too young to remember the 'heydays'. Many people of my generation will base their opinions on his activities since, drink-driving, wife-beating, brawling and the whole transplant thing where people percieve he got a second chance and literally pi$$ed it up a wall. No surprise then that some people don't respect a minutes silence for someone who did all the things that society says you shouldn't.
Drugs from transplant which inhibit the imune system resulted in a kidney? infection which cascaded to multiple organ failure. Cant ip0n it to drink but it was likely contributory. Spouted an uneducated ming mong.
oh **** me lets all blame his ex ..alex ..talk about shooting her ...they ought to give her a medal as big as a dustbin lid .for.sticking with the *****,,,she destroyed him we leaving him ...give over..ffs..she didnt **** his liver up ..or did she pour the booze down his neck??????
I rest my case you cant speak your mind on this board theres always some muppet who just wants to contest everything, Im outta here ............ everybody has an opinion, and this was mine, I dont care 2 fcukin monkeys if people want to disagree with me
RE: People seem to forget ...... I think people will see how he died as irrelevant, its respecting how he lived that they have a problem with
He wasted ... 1. His talent 2. His money 3. Two marriages 4. A lot of other women 5. A donor kidney Definition of tragic, or not?
some good points about much of it. However the views on Alex best i cant agree with, i think even george would regret the way he treated this women who loved him. I agree with remember him as a great on the field.
No, Alex Best didn't cause him to drink HE did! 2 convictions for drink driving, if you read that about anyone else in the Barnsley Chron you'd be calling them scum! As to silences, too many of these going on nowadays imho. In the past it would have been just Man U that held one. That said, I don't think people should interrupt them
