My boyhood hero - he used to collect autographs for me. Corresponded with him when he went to Newcastle and also when he went back to Chile. Still have letters, pennants, Xmas cards, etc saved from those days. A really nice man.
my dad told me he went to our old school, think ted got murdered or something dodgy when he went back to chile
I bet the 1950's BBS forum gave him some reight hammer when he left us. The basterd. But seriously, that's quality. He's a player I refer to when Wednesdayites tell me we've had no great footballers. My grandad loved him. He, Tommy Taylor and Ronnie Glavin are the three laikers I wish I'd seen myself, properly like.
went to ibiza on holiday few years back and met an old geordie, he says he saw the lot play gazza, waddle, mcdonald, beardsley, etc, etc and none ov em could lace the boots ov the robredo brothers the best to play for the toon, never saw em play mi sen bit too young but i'll take his word.
You might not have seen this excellent article on the Robledos by Richard Williams - well worth reading if you haven't ...
Him and his brother were good friends with my grandad. Sadly my grandad passed away seven years ago, but he used to tell me stories about the Robledo brothers. They used to go round the feasts clearing out the 'can you put the ball through the hole' stalls.
That article is brilliant. George outscored Jackie Milburn in one season for Newcastle. Wow. Thanks for posting.
My Doctor at Mapplewell docs is his nephew. Got pics of him in BFC team photos etc in his room when you go in. Strange thing to see in a docs room.
