last 26 games since he was regular fullback

    W W W D W L (did not play unused sub dropped for Bree) W D W W W L (subbed in 2nd half at 1 nil down,we lost 2 nil) W D W W L(did not start ,unused sub dropped for bree), W D W (scored winning goal in injury time, without which we wouldn't make play offs ) D D W W W W

so to summarise its 17 wins 6 draws 1 loss (subbed in 2nd half at 1 nil down) 2 losses he was dropped in our last 26 games

the winning goal to get us in play offs when drawing meant we were sure to be out

15 goals conceded in 23 1/2 games he was on pitch 5 goals conceded in 2 1/2 games he was off pitch

thanks a lot George , heres your reward YOU CAN LEAVE !!!!!!

We don't know what has gone on behind the scenes.

Quite possibly the most 'winning' player we've ever had.

I'm beyond gutted about this. Best full back at the club. We're now down to Bree and White who both struggle to stay fit and weren't any better than George who could play in either position, and the likes of Yiadom, Evans, Dolan etc. Completely untested players at this level, all three have very little experience if any as professional footballers.

Very strange decision. Upsetting decision. But we have to trust those who know what they're doing.

And some L1 club will be getting themselves a very good full back on a free. I'll follow his career with keen interest. A BFC hero, never to be forgotten. So long, George.

I thought George Williams could well be one of those rare, consistent, unsung hero type players that would be at the club for a good three, four perhaps five years, earning himself 'legend' status. I saw him as a dependable player who could do a job in the Championship, would provide great cover and then if we ended up down again, would be the perfect full back in League One. Baffled by his departure.

One thing to consider, how much would a George Williams cost to replace? Top League One defenders capable of starring in play off competitions, at 22(?), aren't ten a penny. We now need to sign two full backs even if Aidy White signs. I'm not being negative btw, still fully behind all things BFC, but gutted he's left.

Strange a guy that can play both full back positions and well like gold dust but what do I know about football.

i think it's a mad decision. especially as it's a contract offer that's been withdrawn. you rarely see that, unless summat behind the scenes has gone off. i think he's been one of our most consistent players, can play in either full back role and ultra professional. has to be more to it. just makes no sense on footballing grounds. our loss.

My only thought was have both players been given some kind of deadline to respond to their offers? Has that passed and BFC have lost patience and decided to move on? Doubtful of course but it's the only idea I could come up with. Shame.

I wonder if it's a geographical thing. He might have had one or two offers, maybe from teams such as Bristol Rovers, that set him thinking "Maybe I fancy going back down the M5". I can only imagine it's a personal thing because he would surely have been a certainty for a decent contract with us after last year's heroics.

On the other hand......the club could have looked at this slight, inexperienced player and thought "No, we need someone a bit tougher for next season's challenge". I can only add my best wishes to George and thanks for some terrific performances. Compare him to wasters such as Paul Gibbs, Reece Brown, Tom Kennedy etc and he stands proud on the podium reserved for top Barnsley full backs.

If it were a personal thing I don't see why we'd withdraw the offer. If we had an offer on the table and he went somewhere else we'd be due some compo wouldn't we?

I'm astounded at this decision. Even if we do have a replacement in mind for Williams, it hasn't yet been finalised. And I'd have thought that having one player at the club who can cover both full back positions if required would be a good thing, even if he wasn't to be first choice.

Also, this withdrawing of contract thing is bizarre. Something odd going on here.

Met George a couple of times and he seemed a very decent, level headed, intelligent lad. Maybe his agent has been making stupid demands and the club have decided to take charge of the situation. Who knows but given the outcry from fans on all social media, I think the club has some responsibility to explain this decision.

Even if the club didn't consider him good enough to be in the Championship letting him for for free is crazy! He proved himself very capable at L1 at the age off 22 - I'm sure someone would have paid money for him but now they can get him on a free.
