    Please read the rules

    http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/RulesAndRegulations/FIFALawsOfTheGame/Postings/2002/05/12111.htm

    The sections that are important are:
    ---------------------------------
    Direct free kick
    A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following six offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
    * kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
    * trips or attempts to trip an opponent
    * jumps at an opponent
    * charges an opponent
    * strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
    * pushes an opponent
    A direct free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following four offences:
    * tackles an opponent to gain possession of the ball, making contact with the opponent before touching the ball
    * holds an opponent
    * spits at an opponent
    * handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)

    A direct free kick is taken from where the offence occurred.
    ---------------------------------
    AND
    ---------------------------------
    Sending-off offences
    A player is sent off and shown the red card if he commits any of the following seven offences:
    1. is guilty of serious foul play
    2. is guilty of violent conduct
    3. spits at an opponent or any other person
    4. denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
    5. denies an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick
    6. uses offensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
    7. receives a second caution in the same matc
    ---------------------------------

    I sent Austin off because he

    * strikes or attempts to strike an opponent

    and this was serious enough that

    'A player is sent off and shown the red card if he commits any of the following seven offences:

    1. is guilty of serious foul play'

    I sent Kay of because he

    * kicks or attempts to kick an opponent

    this was also serious enough to justify sending him off.

    I did not see Coppinger 'strikes or attempts to strike an opponent', if he did then I apologise but I can only act on what I see.

    Regards

    Mr Rennie.

    dear mr lovely person

    6. uses offensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures

    So that would be the physio that should have been sent to the stand then

    Thats funny, i was under the impression it was for a push. He certainly didnt strike or attempt to strike anybody and your actions when you sent him off suggested you believed there was a push but no striking. You also didnt see EITHER of them, it was your linesman that saw it.

    No he did not, and you saw that because you was close enough. Please watch the replay, you will see that kay turns BEFORE making contact so that it is the side of his hip that makes contact with the player. his foot was facing the floor and was not outstretched in any kicking action at all.

    May i also point out to you that a card is to be shown to the player to signal that he is being sent off. It is important how the card is shown and referees are actually monitored in the body language of how they do this. on saturday your body language was disgraceful. you had the card in the air without saying a word BEFORE kay even turned to face you. this is very poor body language and an unprofessional way to issue a red card. I hope you realise that it goes against your training as a referee which clearly teaches you to show the car in an instructional and clear manner but NOT to issue it in a threatening or arrogant way which may antagonise players and cause further anger towards you.

    lets be honest Mr Rennie

    You're only getting so much stick because you're black. If you were a white ref, you wouldn't be getting any near as much stick.

    I believe the term is displaced racism.

    Yay, add another to the list

    We pull hair
    We bring the game in to disrepute with our match reports
    We fix the attendance figures
    We're racist

    Come on, there must be something else bothering you about what sounds like a truly awful weekend.

    Say what you want, you may disagree with me, we can have 'banter' but that is unfair and uncalled for. There is a racist element at every club but the vast majority of football fans find it abhorrent.

    RE: **** off lovely person

    Oh you mean the ref some of your fans all tried to attack on the pitch.

    Three professional fouls and all deserved red cards. Ince should have been sent off too though in fairness, but your bitterness can't see it. And didn't you get a penalty in that game too?

    Yep, right bent that Willard.

    i think you're missing the point

    bent or not gary willard is the most hated ref in barnsley. he is white not black.

    ergo, we dislike referees based on our perception of their performance, not the colour of their skin.

    Donny Red....

    re Gary Well'ard;

    If the decisions were justified, how come he was struck off the referees list straight afterwards? The FA think he was justfied? If so, why was he sacked?

    RE: lets be honest Mr Rennie

    As I said straight after the game, I honestly believe that Rennie has managed to get where he has BECAUSE he is black. This is not a racist comment, simply an observation that positive discrimination can sometimes lead to undesirable results. What amazes me is that hardly anyone has raised the point that we paid good money to watch a football MATCH. You know, 11 against 11. Whether Barnsley would have pulled the goal back is besides the point. They certainly would have had more chance of doing so with a full team. Regardless of whoever is to blame, the real point is that once again it's the supporters who are left short-changed

    Could you look up the bit on issuing yellow cards, you appeared to have forgotten that bit on Saturday.

    Actually I don't go along with this shortchanging of supporters who pay to see 11 against 11. If a player deserves to be sent off I want to see them sent off - midway through the first half it should have been 10 against 10 and no complaints

    I have to disagree Dodeth.

    When Rennie first came onto the FL 'scene' a few seasons ago he was generally recognised - by the football media and the fans - as being one of the best of the upcoming bunch, in terms of using common sense during a game. I seem to recall a Reds' derby game (might have been against the Blunts - though maybe not considering Rennie comes from Sheffield) where we were all praising him after the match for his sensible officiating.

    I honestly think he got where he did through ability - trouble was, once he got there it all seemed to go to his head and he rapidly went down-hill as far as sensibility was concerned. Bottom line is that if we, the fans, know what he is like then you can rest assured that the players and management know likewise. In which case both Ozzie and Kay should have known better than do what they did on Saturday afternoon. If they'd have controlled themselves (not always easy, I grant you) there'd be no question of red cards and we'd have retained 11 players on the pitch. There's other referees in this league who are almost, if not as bad as Rennie - so Neil and Antony need to learn QUICK. We've also got the worst disciplinary record in this division, which begs one or two questions of the team and management.
