... and yes - it should be determined by breed.

Girl, 3, mauled by dog in garden

A three-year-old girl has been airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after being attacked by a dog.
A police spokesman said the incident happened in the garden of a house on Church Road, in the village of Claverdon, in Warwickshire.

The Dobermann pinscher dog, which was owned by a family member, has since been destroyed, police said.

The girl received head, neck and throat injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

A spokesman for Coventry Air Ambulance told BBC News that paramedics had to sedate the girl before she was airlifted to Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham.

"She was taken to the A&E department and it is thought she may need plastic surgery, but it is not clear at the moment as we just stabilise and get them to hospital as soon as possible," he said.
