<p class="story">Precedent suggests that Barnsley's hopes of promotion to the Championship have not been irreparably damaged by this defeat.</p><p class="story">A quarter of a century ago, with the two sides challenging for a place in the old Second Division, Barnsley were beaten by the same margin in front of a near-30,000 crowd at Huddersfield's Leeds Road stadium, yet were eventually promoted.</p><p class="story">If Barnsley's class of 2006 are to succeed, however, they must eradicate the wastefulness in front of goal.</p><p class="story">Chris Shuker, Martin Devaney and Paul Hayes spurned chances before Gary Taylor-Fletcher scrambled in a near-post cross from Andy Holdsworth to score the only goal in the 55th minute.</p><p class="story">Shuker hit the bar in Barnsley's riposte and Marc Richards then muffed the easiest of chances.
