Whats with all this..big club business re league 1..
im sorry to pee on peoples parade but some on here are seting themselves up for a big fall and a season of frustration pain anger, upset by the cart load... if they are not very careful.
maybe we ought to see what takes place re investment , budget, team recruitment before we get ideas of granduer, theres nothing to suggest that we are going to be successfull infact in the cold light of the day the signs says just the opposite.
ben openly says our young players will be brought through and a blend of these and new signings will be in place come kick off.
whilst i agree our own lads should be used whos to say they are ready or adapted to the ale house league of football....it will take time to adjust ...unfortunately football is a results based business ...lots on here and in oakwell will soon be on the managers / players backs if results dont go our way..also bare in mind we are talking barnsley here a club who does things on the cheap and is well noted for it
maybe im coming over as club bashing, im sorry if that appears so but the amount of times ive heard we will come back stronger sticks in my throat..
the club over the years as been miss managed and we the supporters are left holding the dirty water and crying into the soup.
Ben spoke well on radio sheffield like he always does but with out saying anything off note .
listen to his interview but put your hopes and wishes and heart to one side....
theres no rallying call in there that says we the club Are going to do ab or c...and are going to do a wolves and bounce back straight away....his whole interview is based on caution..
unfortunately some are getting carried away on what we will do next season....
i for one see a season of just ticking over pulling up no trees ,mid table , plodding along ...same attitude...we are little club barnsley . Low crowds due to folk being fed up of the same old spin.

i honestly hope and pray im wrong but in the 50 odd years ive being going to oakwell ive seen it and heard it all before.....
    another false dawn
i know ive set myself up to be shot down.....let the abuse begin.....lol

Fundamentally, we won't know til the season unfurls and we're seeing what our new playing personnel are, what tactics we're employing and the style we're adopting.

We will face less teams who are tens, even hundreds of millions in debt and wages are much less allowing us to at least appear competitive. It will also be refreshing to hopefully see local youth being given a chance and less expensive loans that have added little to the team.

We've deserved to go down. Hopefully we'll deserve to go up. But we have to earn that right, whatever the division.

Top 5or6 teams in this league are decent but would be mid to lower championship teams at best the rest are truly shocking really poor

I think there are a good 5 maybe 6/7 clubs in league one that are of similar stature of could be considered 'bigger' than us. I'm not expecting to come straight back up. I think we are a top half league one club. We may spend a couple of seasons in the championship, but we will be up and down in my opinion. Football has changed irreversibly. We simply cannot compete.

I agree wholeheartedly. There's no basis whatsoever at the moment to predict what sort of season we can expect next term.
Right now I'd accept mid table without a second thought. We will take a lot of building back up in my opinion and League 1 will be a lot tougher than many people on here think.

Why would you take mid table?? what's the point of even turning up if that's what our ambitions are! you don't need to be brilliant or have loads of cash to be a good football team

I'm not suggesting we'll come back up. I'm not suggesting we're too big for League One or don't deserve to be there. But I am going into next season full of optimism, arrogance and expecting us to smash the division to pieces. It's called bravado. It's the first chance I've had since 1998 to look at a division and think "we ought to be getting promoted here".

It's not about getting above ourselves. It's just me attacking a season with a different mindset for once. Haven't you ever wondered why we probably struggle as much as we do in the second tier? I suggest it's partly down to our low expectations. Look at Brentford, they're already talking about the Premier League. Of course, they'll probably not get there, but they've set out a goal. Rather that than "oh, well, we're aiming for 21st". Same goes for Bournemouth last Summer, who actually went close to making the playoffs.

We might be **** - again - next season. It wouldn't surprise me much. But for once, our CEO seems to be agreeing with me that we're aiming for an instant return. He wouldn't be saying that unless he had faith in the plan that the club with Danny will be implementing. So why not join me in my big headed view? What's the worst that can happen? We fail? So what. I'm choosing to be arrogant. If you'd rather go into next season feeling worried and expecting failure, so be it. I suppose it'll be easier to accept if we do fail. But I'm happy to take the fall, to end up on my face. Don't care. We're the longest serving second tier club. There's only Sheff Utd currently in that division that I'd deem as bigger than us. And even then, they're not massive or owt. We can compete with them, always have in my lifetime. There are a good bunch of similar clubs to us - Bradford, PNE, Coventry, Bristol City etc. Birmingham or Donny to join us, who aren't any bigger/better in current terms. So aye, I believe my optimism is not misplaced. We're going to smash it. :)

    You 'Pissing It' Reds.

Because the reality could be a whole lot worse. Face facts, we have been a very, very poor team this season and we are about to lose our best 2 or 3 players in the summer. Allied to the fact that our budget is about to half I'd say that's grounds for concern. I've been watching the Reds since 1973 and have built up my hopes many times (like last summer) only to have them dashed.
I actually think we'll be ok but I'd be very (pleasantly) surprised if we break into the top 8 or so. That said, I really hope all the optimism being shown on here becomes reality. No one would be more pleased than moi.
