Wanting to loose a few stone and get heart working better. Live in centre of Barnsley anyone recommend a gym to go and get started.
just to reinforce the message Get on your bike! read this for inspiration .... http://www.fatcyclerider.co.uk/
I use DW. It is a good gym but it 'aint cheap. One thing though, if you join you have to use it. Unfortunately just paying the fees doesn't work !
Don't bother with a gym, far too expensive to use a treadmill when you can just have a jog outside. Also you will find it better just going on a bike ride. Not boring.
ive just my bike all fixed up and ready to go need to loose some poundage. can any one reccomend a decent route for me to try. i live in mapplewell. not too far to start with.
I've been riding from tarn centre to Durkar five days a week for the last five months and I haven't lost a pound. I'm fit as though.
Yes gyms can be expensive but i am on the off peak subscription with DW and also get some of that knocked off through my works sports and social club. There are instructors there who can give you all the advice you want and talk you through diet as well as exercise. Been going up to 3 times a week since mid December and lost almost 2 stone but not just through exercise as i have also made a lot of changes to what i eat and dont eat and how much alcohol i consume. Each to their own but i am sure you will find something that suits your life style. Good luck with it.
Two things - one I reckon that just getting out running rather than going to the gym is the bast way of getting proper fitness if you're just looking for weight loss and to improve your heart health rather than wanting to go for more aesthetic reasons. And secondly - don't join a nice gym. I was at Virgin Active in Didsbury for a while and never did anything, just a bit of swimming then sat in the jacuzzi looking at girls. Whereas the one I'm at now is a total shithole, no pool and the clientele is like a prison gym, so I tend to do a lot more while I'm there and get more benefit from it (and it's less than half the price).
On Xmas Eve I started running, I was doing 5 miles a day and ran almost everyday. I had 2 weeks off at Xmas and getting into it was hard (helps being on a beach surrounded with bikini clad birds though) but I kept doing it until I could run all 5 miles without walking for a bit. I've kept it up and I'm under 13 stone now, lost about a stone altogether. I'm now running 7 miles most days and I have managed to almost break an hour. I stopped eating ***** but I don't cut back on normal food or beer, the weight dropped off but now I've hit a weight and it's going to take a huge effort to get below it. But I'm happy with 13st with being 6 foot and mid 30's. I'm fit as a fiddle now and look loads better. Not cost a penny, apart from some proper running shoes from a proper running shop. A month running in any old trainers was the biggest mistake ever, if you do start running go see a running shop and let them tell you what you need. My feet pronate like most folks, sounds weird but google it, just means my feet need inner support.
Plus if you live in the town centre there's loads of places to jog and get out away from the roads using the paths, tracks and parks. I used to walk over the motorway on the many tracks n paths from the town centre across the motorway onto the Trans Pennine Trail every weekend. The back of Oakwell is a great place too.
You don't need a gym - Join Fit Reds and change your lifestyle. Lost 31lb since 12 Jan this year by going on the Fit Reds. I'm eating much more than I used to, just eating the right foods at the right times and taking regular exercise. 30+ minute daily walks and mountain bike a couple of times a week.
i emailed lukea at fit reds to see if there was any space on the april course. but havent heard back from him. so i guess not. i cant do the june course as im immigrating to the usa, hopefully around june or july. ill just get my running shoes on and mountain bike out then.
