In past weeks that is, it's got to be said it hasn't taken long for a lot of apparently easily pleased people to surface. Let's all be realistic. I've not been today - won't pretend otherwise, however I listened, and it sounded to me like we played very well and are very deserving of the win. This pleases me greatly. I'm not one to hope we lose to add to the argument to rid ourselves of a manager. I'm not sure the argument needed to be any more compelling anyway. It was a good, well needed and well earned result. But... It doesn't convince me that Lee Johnson is the right person to manage the club. He is not. One win doesn't convince me otherwise after eight losses in a row. If we also win the next seven consecutive league games, to balance his record, I'll eat humble pie then. Gladly. To be honest, I'd rather I end up having to eat my words, as that will mean we've won a lot of games and shot up the table. Whilst I can't see that happening particularly quickly, (as bad as he is he will inevitably win a few games with this squad, which I believe has a lot more ability than a lot of others in this division. Only if we become a consistently good side, at the level the ability of the squad deserves, will I accept I was wrong) if he does it, then fair play. This is an ale house league full of tripe and average at best teams. I've not seen anything special. The team top of the table beat us by the odd goal in seven in a bizarre game, other teams up towards that end haven't looked all that great to my eye. We have a lot of young players but have at last added a bit more experience to it, (I'd still like a bit more experience in the middle of the park), we should beat most teams. And that isn't blind arrogance, it's the plain truth based on our players, gates, relative club size, financial clout. At least top ten in everything, probably higher. If Mr Johnson shows form in line with that (I'm not expecting to be top eight by Christmas or anything ridiculous, just steady progress), then I will congratulate him on proving me wrong. Not that he'd be bothered about my opinion but still. I genuinely hope this is the start of a prolonged run of good form. I just think we ought to hold back on the optimism until we get at least a few more good results.
Been a long time since a win Troff just want to enjoy it, doesn`t mean I will forget what led us to this position.
Can't have that Troff. Fair do's - the bloke has shown some cojones to pull that result out. Acid test is backing it up of course, but the midweek wongas sound like good acquisitions.
He's done very well today, the whole team, which he leads and chooses, have. I give him great credit for that, especially given his history there. I maintain what I said though. It's one win. A big one, but only one. He should have a good meal and a drink tonight, well earned. He's some way to go to convince me he's worthy of the job he has yet though.
I think you're assuming that many are satisfied by one win. Due to the novelty. Not the case. But I take issue with your description of this league. If it is "ale house" then why is it so hard to get out of?
It's not just the one win IMO ,its combined with the much improved performance last week against P V . Yes I know we lost and its a statistic I've had shoved down my throat but it was signs of improvement and its coupled with today's win imo
Agree Marlon I thought last week were more entertaining and a win this week, things looking slightly better.
Because, like I eluded to, everyone of the teams seems capable of losing to anyone. All as bad as eachother for want of a better way of putting it, one or two like Crewe aside. And in terms of being hard to get out of - in past years it has been, though in previous years there have been better teams in it. The teams that went straight through the championship for example and remain in the premier league (or back in it), Swansea, Norwich. Plus Leicester took only a couple of years or so. Coventry look ok but not special this year. If the league was that tough, I don't believe clubs like bury - with their low gates, relatively low budget and so on, would be in the top six. Walsall, burton, doing very well. The difference is they are comparatively well organised and tactically sound. I fully expect any club to lose their fair share this season - but I cannot excuse eight in a row, especially against some of the sides in that run. At least, as I've said, until we get a few good results on the bounce to balance it off and prove he is able. If and when he does, I will accept that I am wrong to say what I do.
Funny how supporting your team is often misconstrued as easily pleased. Pretty sure some people are afraid of enjoying themselves in case they combust. No it changes little, we still need to win a few more games, there's 6 months of the season left ffs Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Haha yeah that's true... I'm not sure results have to be that good to prove his worth. Not really what I was getting at. It would prove me wrong for definite mind you. And the 'easily pleased' was not aimed at those simply happy at the result - I was myself - more those who put in statuses calling out 'the negative lot' or 'doom mongerers' as though one result changed everything. I don't think LJ is the right man for the job, but it doesn't mean I won't support him and the club whilst he has it. Have a good week.
