........ or coasting through training and putting a shift in on match days - I know which one I prefer. In an ideal world, every player would try his nuts off every day in training and on match days but it just doesn't happen. Apparently Robbie Fowler was (in his prime) a right idle barsteward in training, did the minimum he could, always at the back when it came to running round the training pitch, but bagged 25-30 goals in the Premiership for a number of seasons. It's no good being a good athlete and super fit if you can't play football when the time comes on a Saturday afternoon, so to me this 'not trying in training so you aren't being picked on Saturday' approach is a load of old tosh.
Lack of training has caught up with him in the end So have all those drunken nights in the Rose of Mossley!
Maybe so, but my point was you don't have to sweat ... .... your nuts off Monday to Friday if you are a good player, alternatively sweating your nuts off Monday to Friday doesn't make you a world-beater if you have no talent!
I just think if someone's busting a gut in training then they deserve their chance. If someone is showing a bad attitude and what not, then chances are he probably doesn't care too much for the team. If someone get's dropped, their best reaction is to show the manager they are good enough and that they'll do whatever they can to win back their place. I think some players are quite happy swanning about earning a wage for minimum effort. And I certainly don't want people like that playing for my club

And some players tow their bag out in training ...... ........ and never get a look in because the manager won't pick them, regardless of how the team is performing, even when he signed the fecking player in the first place!
I'd rather they worked hard than swan around on their egos Hard work does pay off in the end - don't think Jol pushed his players last pre season and looked what happened to him.

RE: And some players tow their bag out in training ...... Some players turn out to be rubbish, they can tow as many bags as they want.
No mate, I can spell, I meant to type 'god' ...... .......... but you can take it as 'good' if you want, cos he's neither!
RE: No mate, I can spell, I meant to type 'god' ...... I think you've got to give by xmas to realy make your mind up, but no Manager is bigger than the club.
I hope he's still here by xmas ...... ......... because that will mean he's got us into a decent position in the league, but summat tells me he won't see xmas if things aren't going well
You pick the talented one, every time. Talented players win you games, people who run around a lot may do just about enough to keep the score down. Trying really hard in training is commendable. I used to play football with one of the most committed, fittest and hardest working individuals it's ever been my pleasure to witness. If you had to judge someone on effort, he'd have been playing for Real Madrid by now. Unfortunately - for him anyway - he never got picked for a competitive game because he couldn't kick a ball for love nor money.
RE: Correct - go and tell Simon that, it isn't in his coaching manual nt Who says Christensen was talented though?
Davey saw him week in week out, maybe he realised/believed that he simply wasn't good enough? Or maybe he was never fit enough? I don't know, but I just cannot see why it seems everyone thinks he's the saviour

RE: Correct - go and tell Simon that, it isn't in his coaching manual nt Don`t think that people thought he was our saviour just a player whom for some reason didn`t get a fair chance when others weren`t doing the business.
