Just a shame that there are some guilty individuals still walking free.

Glad they have been found guilty, if they are guilty!!!!
Strange that there was less evidence this trial than last time, yet this time they are guilty!
They are scumbags of the highest order, but are we 100% certain they are guilty? Or is this just the only way to be seen to get justice?

From everything I've read and seen they are guilty. The evidence available now has been subject to hugely improved forensics and the blood on Dobson's jacket can now be identified as Stephen Lawrence's. If only the police had done their job properly in the first place there would have been enough evidence to convict them all without the need for breakthroughs in forensics and cold case reviews

proof was not required of who wielded the knife and I believe it is the Police's belief that that was one of the Acourt's, the fact that the 2 convicted were there is enough to convict them of murder. They've had 18 years of freedom they shouldn't have and hopefully that will mean a harsher sentence. The fact that no one from the bodged investigation at the time has ever faced charges is however another travesty of justice.

Its been a very long time in coming but justice has finally caught up with these two scumbags, I only hope the sentence is appropriate. Now justice can go after the other three and put them away for life too.

That does not appear to be the case. Because they were juveniles at the time of the incident, they will be sentenced in accordance with that, also says they will get the sentenceing appropriate at that tim, and there wasn't a charge of racially-aggrevated assault then which now carries a longer sentence.

Unfortunately the sentencing will be based on their ages at the time of the offence; 15 years min seems to be the accepted outcome.

the police were and still are to a lesser degree, institutionally racist. As the BBC piece last night said, because he was black they presumed he was part of a gang or up to no good and didnt take his killing as seriously as they would have done if he was white.

I recorded the programme on this last night but have yet to watch it. Did it say if another investigation will be made into the initial handling of the case by the police?

I do think that the two charged were guilty but don't understand why they were found guilty on potentially flimsier evidence than the last trial. I think the defence had a strong case for DNA contamination. I think with this case it would have kept on going to court until they were eventually found guilty because of the shambles the police made initially and it was so high profile.

Norris sentenced to minimum term of 14 years and 3 months

Dobson sentenced to 15 years and 2 months minimum term.

Judge says there is no guarantee that the defendants will be released at the end of minimum term

As I understand it this was the defence's argument. They claimed that a water based saliva test had caused dried blood to soak in to the material of the jacket. However, they did not produce any expert secientific witness to support this argument. The prosecution meanwhile had carried out complete tests in which they found it impossible to recreate a stain through the a flake of dried blood becoming wet, and concluded that it could only have been created at the time of the attack. The previous prviate prosecution was based on witness testimony which was ruled inadmissable, and not forensic evidence. All the forensic evidence has been produced since the inital trial due to breakthrough's in testing.

Although I completely agree with you, the ineptitude and institutional racism of the police at the time so very nearly allowed them to get away with it and gave them their defence in this case.

It was said in Court that contamination was 'entirely implausible'.

Thanks for explaining that. I was dreading the thought of them having any grounds for appeal becuase of the DNA. This case has gone on for far to long and the parents should finally be allowed to grieve as i'm sure all this has stopped the natural course of the grieving process

The documentary is worth a watch and I was originally thinking the same as you around cross-contamination. His parents are remarkable people but I don't think they will be able to start grieving until the others are brought to justice. Unfortunately the only way it looks like that will happen is if either Dobson or Norris talk which, I imagine, would result in a plea bargain and a reduction in sentence. The link Dyson posted to the Telegragh piece on all their prior discretions was enlightening. Horrible horrible little men.
