Glasto isn't hippies. Glasto once was, now it's all disgusting middle class late twenty to forty somethings with their babies thinking they are cool.
Since BBC started showing so much of it that what you're going to get. Its like Ibiza wi these 10 euro loving Facebook kids, 1994 doves all day....
Was impressed with Solange Knowles' voice. No one will beat Bruce Springstein's performance back in 2009. The Verve were class back in 2008 too.
Back in the 90s I always used to make a point of going out in Camden on Glastonbury weekend, as most of the regular Camden crowd were sat in a field, banging on about it "not being about the bands, but about the vibe, yada, yada". I couldn't think of anything more horrible then (sleeping on the floor in a tent, surrounded by crusties, getting crushed seeing a band you're only half interested in, queueing for ages for a beer or the loo, crap beer and horrible toilets at that, and then spending ages trying to find your tent in the dark whilst totally incapable and developing trenchfoot), so 20 years later with my bad back, tinnitus, aversion to standing for long periods, dislike of crowds, additional dozen or so medical conditions I didn't have 20 years ago and lack of patience for gigs nowadays it's safe to say it's not for me! From what I see on the telly, nowadays you're stood in a field with a load of Jeremies and Tristrans, struggling to see the stage through all the flags and mobile phones that are being held aloft, dodging bottles of pi55 that are being lobbed around whilst trying to watch geriatrics like Bruce Forsyth or the Rolling Stones. I turned down seeing the Stones on corporate hospitality 6 or 7 years ago because it was at Twickenham (and getting home to north London from down there was a pain at the best of times), because spending an evening off with insurers is not my idea of fun and because I would only be interested in seeing the Stones if I could go in a tardis back to 1972 when they had a decent guitarist. Watching the Shine a Light concert film it sounded at times like Keef and Ronnie were strangling cats. Anyway, that was my application for grumpy old men and I'm off to my bed, which will be a lot warmer and comfier than Hicksy's this weekend!
Glastonbury is so much more than what the BBC show. Sadly, people judge it on the $hit that gets served up on Pyramid, and cnuts like Jo Whiley who don't have a clue And while I'm on, who the **** allowed Edith Bowman on 6Music?!?!?
Can't do with Glastonbury or festivals in general, I appreciate there are people who live for that kind of thing but I get the impression that most of the people who go are going simply so they can say they've 'been to Glasto'...
Glastonbury isn't the only festival out there jed, to be fair. There are some incredible festivals, something for everybody
The main thing that puts me off is the lack of proper washing facilities! And the fact that the main style of music there isn't really my cup of tea, although I have been to similar one day events and still enjoyed the experience but a whole day was more than enough.
A quote on the news yesterday lunch time told everyone what's wrong with Glastonbury these days "Wayne and Colleen Rooney have just arrived at the site by private helicopter" I mean who the f.uck do they think they are? Mrx?
The price of a ticket has probably priced out the real people who appreciate that kind of event, amazing to think that it used to cost next to nothing to go and now it's getting on for £300.
Application granted, well done that man. For me you couldn`t beat an up and coming band makin yer ears bleed in a small pub venue, after first album most become ***** anyways.
Rolling Stones..Chic featuring Nile Ranger...fookin Kenny fookin Rogers... Jeeze Louise, I'd want mi 300 notes back, sharpish.
Went to Long Division festival this year in Wakefield, only cost £20 and was as good as any expensive weekend festival I've been to. Bestival a close second.
