Arrogance beyond belief and a total disrespect for Barnsley FC.

I hope the lads hammer them today and I'll be right behind them. (england)

think I must have missed something Tina you musta seen something different

City players have been warned not to be fooled by Barnsley's position at the foot of the table.

The Tykes have won just one of their seven games, but City boss Glenn Roeder says that doesn't tell the whole story.

“Have you seen how many Barnsley have been losing by? 1-0, 1-0, 1-0 - they are bottom of the table because they have lost 1-0, they are not getting smacked,” said Roeder.

“It is only a few months ago they were in the semi-final of the FA Cup, and I looked at the team last week and there are not too many changes - in fact they have added (Iain) Hume to the team, who they paid over £1m for. They have not been weakened.”

Roeder's only double of last season was against Barnsley, who City beat 3-1 away in January and then 1-0 at home just six weeks later.

“We are very conscious that we have to be at our best and there last year was one of the best second 45 minutes of the season,” he said.

“We shouldn't have been down in the first half, but second half we were absolutely terrific and it could have been many more than the three that we scored.

The Canaries broke their away duck when they won at Plymouth a fortnight ago, but Roeder says that hasn't changed anything ahead of the trip to south Yorkshire.

“I don't think the pressure is any different from trying to win a home game or an away game,” he said. “All I know is that every successful team has a good away record. If you take Ipswich, they had automatic promotion form at home last year and relegation form away from home and in the end that just pulled them up short.

“To be successful you need more than a point a game, a point a game normally would keep you just above mid table. We need to be running points ahead of the games we have played.”

Roeder has taken City into the top half, but says he doesn't set targets.

“I just think football is such an unpredictable business, you start making goals as in monthly goals, or where you have to be at the end of this month - for me it is a waste of time, it's cup of tea talk,” he said. “There is only one thing that counts and that's winning the next game and the rest takes care of itself then. Keep winning the next game and you don't have to worry about where you are at the end of

    Think you must mean this

'There's no point in winning the last week and then all of a sudden going to a team like Barnsley, who you're expected to get three points from, and losing.'

mind you he's only saying what we were saying about Southampton last week

I didn't read that, just the propoganda on our official site.

I hate it when I read "We should be going to teams like Barnsley and....."

Haven't read the board for a couple of days so probably not up to speed with things!

Whilst I don't agree it's a perfectly reasonable thing to say

Of course that's how you should feel when you are playing a team at the bottom of the table

    Not in the slightest arrogant

    How?

This team are at the bottom of the league we are 11th pushing for the pay offs, I think we should beat them.

Seems a reasonable line of thought to me

Exactly. reality check Tina. we are sh#t

    At the moment,

lets hope we can turn it round but at the moment every team in this league looks at us and thinks they should beat us

We're easy to play against. We've no pace, we don't close the opposition down, we can't pass water.

Very hopeful DeSilva can help turn things around - his central midfield partner notwithstanding like. If he's on the afternoon sesh on The Wirral.

    And he's spot on.

I pointed this out yesterday. I'd be puzzled if he didn't think they should be coming to Oakwell for the points.

    Sorry Tina

but the way we are at the moment he's right , and I wish our manager had that attitude rather than trying to convince us that it was a goo point against a toothless Saints outfit who were lacking in confidence

I know where you are all coming from and accept what you say. You are right. I witnessed us at Blackpool and the home game against Cardiff and we were exactly as you all say - toothless, lacking in pace and a total shambles. I just don't like it when they say we should be beating teams like us. It makes me want to defend them and our town because we are looked upon as lowly and summat from out of the dark ages.

    I think Roeder

Is experienced enough as a manager to realise that no team has a divine right to 3 pts, no matter where their opponents lie in the table. It's just wind up talk and Barnsley will hopefully remain professional and ram those words back down his throat. He used to say the same sort of things @ Newcastle & W.Ham, he was of course, sacked by both those clubs.

I wish it wasn't true Tina, but we're crap.

If I was them I'd be thinking 'that's three points we need to take'. It's not like in 1996/97 when we were actually very very good and people were still looking down their noses at us waiting for us to run out of steam. Right now we're poor.

    I agree with you Tina.

He's showing a total lack of respect.

He could have been much more diplomatic.

He should have said "it's no use winning unless we can continue to pick up the points at Barnsley who are at the bottom but will be working hard try and beat us"

I hope we stuff those words down his throat.

    What's wrong with that?

He's referring to a side bottom of the table, he's saying that if they are to challenge for promotion then they need to win against the teams at the bottom - what's wrong with that?

These comments are made to their local media and for their website, they then get reported on ours - it's no diffferent to comments made by our management team on our website.

It's up to us (as in the club) to make us into one of those sides that teams aren't expected to be beating if they want to be successful, but to be one of those sides looking to beat the sides lower down.
