I'm with you all the way on that one Nudge

I dislike almost everything about it. The only feature I do think is ok is the "tracer line" system that shows more clearly who is responding to which part of which thread.

The rest is awful. And I will also be thankful when tomorrow comes and what must be the largest "sticky" ever created in the world, anywhere, finally disappears.

Agreed, I had to check the other views to see what the trouble was, bloody hell, I cant see any reason to use the threded mode.

What is the point of the LINEAR MODE........and FFS stop with the STICKY garbage !!!

Linear Mode..........yer can see foooking nothing of who is answering to who or who is involved in the thread.
Linear Mode is a total waste of time

Threaded Mode..........is just difficult to sift through......its just ONE HUGE PAGE OF WRITING......as part of my work I read reports off the internet..........reading this message board is very much like working.........
To make the situation worse we have all these STICKYS that are as long as yer arm

Why the foooking hell should we have sticky this long is beyond me........on the old board stickys were in a small box at the top of the page

    I think Linear is misleading

It doesn't show chronologically who is replying to which post. And if you reply in advanced mode and delete the unnecessary quotes of others you have no idea what is going on unless you switch to threaded mode, which is where more problems begin.

I'm not being picky Gally, but can't a sticky on threaded be contained within one headline and then those who want to enter it and respond can click into it and look at all the contents? Why does it have to be the size of a small village in Cumbria?

Why should you forever quote the post you are replying to?

You never needed to before. Haven't we moved on a bit?

I know you haven't forgiven me for my outburst the other week.

    Boo!

Re: I think Linear is misleading

Then you must hate the vast majority of other forums as VBulletin is pretty much the standard. Has been for years.

What's not to like with the linear format? You can see who started the thread (and when), who was the last to reply (and when), along with how many other replies or views the thread has had.

It even shows you a green tick next to threads you've contributed to.

The 'red' for unread and 'green' for read 'almost' works (Still needs tweaking).

And you have a 'Search' that works. Where on the old forum if you searched for anything older than a day you'd get SQL error messages.

Compare that to something like the Leeds Service Crews forum. Which is only displaying 'TWO Threads'

Re: I think Linear is misleading

Linear is ok in it's place, but it has some shortcomings that I don't particularly like.

Threaded shows at a glance who has responded and to which posters within the thread. This version of threaded is particularly good because there are tracer lines from responses back to other posts, so you can follow the differing pathways witin one thread. Linear doesn't do that unless you resort to cumbersome and space consuming reproduction of quotes.

If threaded isn't worth it, then get rid of it. Simple. If it's to be kept on then it should be fit for purpose for those who want to use it.

Not complicated really, but I was only commenting on Nudger's post. There are more important things to life and really I couldn't give a ****.

Leeds service crews forum looks better to me

Much better, so long as the threads change colour when I've read them. Nice big gaps between thread like we used to have on the old board. Very easy to read and pick up on a conversation.

For instance, I can see with a quick glance that 'steak' has added a message to a thread on the Leeds forum. I can click on his message from the forum index and answer that message. There's simply no way of doing that on the linear threaded board. It also clearly shows how the conversation has progressed and who has replied to who.

I don't mind that the Leeds board is longer than 1 page. That's why I've got a scroll wheel on my mouse. Scrolling I don't mind. Having to click several times and hunt for messages I haven't read is a pain.

This new board is fast. Much faster. And that's a massive plus. But I don't see any other benefits. Give me the speed of this one and the design of the old one any day.

I know, I know, **** off on to the Leeds forum if you like it that much. I'd expect nothing less.
